Today we’d like to introduce you to Phaedra Janaye.
Phaedra, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Where do I start? Somewhere in my childhood I wasn’t always comfortable with my height. Often times I was the tallest black girl in the class. My parents, especially my father being 6’1 1/2, encouraging me to stand up straight with my shoulders back. After school I’d come home and watch “The Tyra Show” and “America’s Next Top Model”. Contrary to thought, Tyra Banks’ narrative about gaining her self-confidence, not stepping on a scale or at least alone, etc. amazed me. Sometimes I’d find myself in my mother’s mirror, in my own little world, trying on her assortment of lipsticks and smiling, playing ‘dress up’ LOL. I discovered that one of many things I really wanted to do with my life was modeling. Later on in life, in my peak of adulthood, I auditioned for a college fashion show. I got my spot in the show and got to walk and learned some basic things on hand through practices. That was my first experience. Following from there, I continued to speak what I had set on my heart into existence, a positive mindset was and is key. I expanded and networked with others, to mastering my craft in walking and posing, learning how to do makeup, and all. Thanks to God, those closest to me, and most importantly instilling faith the size of a muster seed, I made it my choice to prolong my desires. A dream is not a final destination. I’m proudest of my great diligence for my visions to be on camera and print, for the aspiring model I am and how far I’ve set foot on.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Trials and tribulations aren’t forbidden to those who want success, want more for themselves, and manage their fulfillment. I struggled with where the hell do I start? Alongside procrastination, I knew this what I wanted to… so what’s the problem? Just the matter of doing what needs to be done. Stress is minor when you’re focused on the bigger picture of things. And I got over that hump. Now in days, I would ask myself, “so where do I go from here or what’s next?” Another struggle was focus of walk. Keeping a “strong” pace in strides and owning it.
Tell us about your work – what should we know?
I’m a model, aspiring and currently freelanced in my field. Posing and delivering my look and significant attributes through my own visuals and inquired projects and photo shoots. I like to call my ideas “visuals”, with that I display a cabinet of versatility and virtue. From the natural state with my hair, to simplicity, and more abstract works of art. What sets me apart from others is the prominent ideas that come to mind and executing them. Furthermore, my easygoing but determined character, and willpower to evolve, my positive mindset. The idea and motivation of MASTERING YOUR OWN CRAFT and not settling for less than. I’m most distinguished for thinking outside the box and being optimistic. Including straying away from a dull moment to bring life to the picture. I’m proudest of my drive and passion being fulfilled and continuation of being who I truly am and not stepping aside from what makes me happy, and managing myself.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
A quality I feel is most important is… MASTERING YOUR OWN CRAFT. Being destined to standing firm and with solitude, a huge part of my ongoing success. You’re never done learning and grasping concept. The understanding of patience, not being done with what I want and choose to do. To mastering your own craft’, you must speak positivity and affirmations over your life. Another is not settling for less than and doing what makes me comfortable.
