Today we’d like to introduce you to The Primary Movement.
We started off as an idea to bring artists of all walks of life together. Our founder, Diamond Bradley, always had a passion for art (She has dreams of becoming a curator) and hosting events, so she put both together and started the Primary Movement. Our official launch happened on February 24th, 2018. Shortly after, we had our first art show which was The Divine Feminine: Self Care Series. We have grown tremendously within a year. We would like to credit our supporters for the amount of growth we have endured in the past year. Without them, we don’t think half of what we do would be possible. Supporters being friends, family, and Instagram followers. They all have made this journey a tad bit easier.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Although we have had a numerous amount of support since we launched in 2018, It has not been a smooth road; our main obstacles come from finding funding and affordable event spaces to host our events.
Please tell us about The Primary Movement.
The Primary Movement is an art collective that advocates for our local artists. Our mission is to Connect, Promote and Showcase local artist. We do this by having art shows, networking events and workshops. We started this collective on February 24th, 2018. In 2018, we put on two art shows (Art shows being the Melanin Pop-Up Show; this show embraced artists views on black culture, the second show being The Divine Feminine: Empowerment Series; this happened in March, Women’s Month. We embraced women artists and their artwork.), two networking events and spoke at a few events. We also partnered with Mark Made to give a scholarship to a deserving artist in college. Our goal is to make our events annual occasions and to do more community outreach in schools.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
There is nothing that we would have done differently. This is an everlasting journey for us. We have endured obstacles but they made us stronger and wiser.
