Meet Quenton Rucker of Qfilmz in Southwest Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quenton Rucker.

Quenton, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My passion for filming and photography began in the 9th grade in my Broadcast/Video Productions Class. My teacher, Mr. Williams, saw something in me and gave me free range with my creativity. I was known for making videos with my phone, and posting them on my social media pages. In my junior year, I had started to perfect my craft, and created the “Sports” segment on Westlake TV.

I went on to college to play QB, but my real passion was being behind the camera. I started Qfilmz while at Shaw University. I got my grind from my Mother, who had me at 21, and opened up a full-service Beauty Salon when I was six months. I spent a lot of time in that salon and watching her hustle, and take care of her clients made me really admire her, and respect how she moved.

I grew up being known in the community for my athletic ability and wanted desperately to make it to the NFL to be able to take care of my Mom. I made it to the next level and got a scholarship to college. I made a name for myself in school by filming videos for my peers, and by volunteering to film school activities. My experience in college includes camera work for “Howton U”, with Ashford J, “Deliver Us from Evil”, HBO (Horizon Productions) special on Shaw University.

After college, I went full steam by filming music videos for my friends back home in Atlanta. I joined a team of super dope camera guys in the “Atlanta Film Family”, and things took off from there. I collaborated with BeelBe in 2016 and we have produced classics. I have filmed artists such as Future, Gucci Mane, Offset, Boosie, Rich Homie Quan, Quando Rondo, Summerella, Lightskin Keisha, Ludacris, KayClark Casting, KeyGlock, and many more. My portfolio is not limited to music videos. I do weddings, events, live shoots, any and everything you need to be done with the camera, I can do it for you. Capturing life’s most precious moments is therapeutic, and healing.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Of course not. Life is going to have bumps in the road period. It’s your driving skills that determine if you are going to crash or not. I grew up watching my Mom deal with Lupus, and overcome a lot of obstacles. She was a single Mom, so she is the one that taught me to be tough, and to push through no matter what. Fortunately for me, my Mom made sure that I was exposed and afforded me many opportunities. I graduated from the Rites of Passage program through the South Metro Chapter of 100 Black Men of South Metro Atlanta and participated in sports from age four on up. My Granddad was my Father figure and taught me a lot about being a man.

I was really hard headed and angry at one point in my life, because of all the struggles I had to endure. My attitude has definitely cost me some blessings, but I have had to learn how to heal and re-direct my anger and create with it. My camera is like my coping skill. I will always have a love for football, and I still play semi-pro football, but my true passion is directing, taking pictures, and creating stories through the lens of a camera.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Qfilmz – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
QFILMZ LLC is an established media company. I specialize in directing, producing, creative expression, digital print, anything media. I guess my creativity. My work is distinguishable, and I bring life to my craft. I am able to see things behind the lens that most people don’t.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
To expand my client base, and to create a film curriculum for inner-city youth, to be able to create impactful art for the culture, that will last forever. I want to be able to put people in places to succeed.
