Meet Rah Mosley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rah Mosley.

So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
For me, creating my blog rahmosley.com “The Tall Men’s Lifestyle Guide” ideal started in 2016, a close childhood friend of mine Teva and I was having a conversation about future goals. During the conversation, I mentioned how I’ve always wanted to model or work in fashion on some level but more specifically having my own clothing line. I’ve always been known for dressing well for a tall guy and being able to find clothes that looked great on me. So, we came up with the idea that I should create a blog that would be a go-to for the guy that looked like me and needed inspiration and information on where to find stylish clothing. So from there, I began coming up with ideas of how I would approach blogging because it’s not as easy it seems. I didn’t want to be the blogger who posts were far and few between I wanted to constantly have content to put out there. Once I got all my content together to start with, had a few photoshoots, worked with my website designer, and was finally ready to launch I did so on New Year Day 2017! From there the reaction was well-received people actually loved it and thought it was something that was needed for the big and tall men, I had filled a nitch that was missing.

What happened next was interesting and very surprising to me, I began to get more requests for modeling opportunities which was something that I’ve always been interested in doing since I was a teen. Growing up seeing Tyson Beckford in Polo ads, Chris Collins also in Polo & JC Penney ads, and as of the most recent years seeing fellow Big and Tall Model Miguel Perdomo in everything from Target, Khols, and Old Navy, I always thought to myself I want to do that too! Fast forward to now I was recently nominated for two Full-Figure Industry Awards, ‘Emerging Male Model of the Year’, and ‘Male Blogger of the Year’, which I ended up bringing home ‘Emerging Male Model of the Year! This was a big achievement and win for me it feels so good to be recognized for something that you love doing! I was a nervous wreck giving my acceptance speech though lol, but I definitely took winning that category seriously because I feel that it’s important to show little brown boys that they can be anything they want to be and it doesn’t always have to be sports-related.

I take pride in knowing that I have become a part of the movement in the male modeling industry that is helping to break down doors for the big and tall men. For so long, when big and tall clothing was seen in ads or catalogs the models wearing the clothing weren’t big and tall at all or they used celebrities to help further push the brand. I’m glad to see that things are changing and that men who are actually wearing the clothes being sold are being seen in those ads or on the runways wearing the clothing.

Since winning the, ‘Emerging Male Model of the Year’, I have had a few great opportunities come my way so I’m looking forward to what’s to come and furthering my brand/blog!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road because now that I’ve got my foot in the door of the modeling world, I still have to prove myself, I’ve been booking jobs without agency representation this industry is full of a lot of no’s so you have to develop tough skin. You will always be too much of something or not enough of something else for someone. For instance, I’m 6’10” I’m often told I’m too TALL, I recently saw an audition post for a Big & Tall casting and the height cut off was 6’7″, which leaves me out the loop lol and another reason why I continue to create my own path! Another big achievement of mines this year was getting the cover of Plus Model Magazine with Liris Crosse, Plus Model Winner of Project Runway and also known as “Plus Naomi Campbell”! I came up with the idea to recreate some photos that Naomi and Tyson had shot together, but I had never met Liris before so I took a leap of faith and slide in her dm very respectfully and asked if she would be interested in shooting with me. A day or so later, she got back to me and was like let’s do it and from there, it was history! We steamed up the Sexy Summer Issue of Plus Model Magazine with our tribute to Tyson and Naomi!!

In this business, you have to think outside the box especially for us guys, the plus-size industry for women is huge! It’s just starting to catch on for us guys which means most of the time some of these clothing labels try to get more for less, lol… I don’t need free clothing, cut the check!!! So, at this point in my modeling career, it’s just about knowing your worth in the industry and achieving what you desire. I always tell guys that it’s possible to get work and be respected while showing other respect.

RAHMOSLEY.COM “The Tall Men’s Lifestyle Guide” – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m known mostly for modeling/blogging, I created the blog as a way to help other guys like me have a resource to find stylish clothing, find inspiration, and to let the world know us tall guys can dress well too. I also do image consulting for guys who don’t have time or just hate shopping in general and would rather someone else do it for them. What I am most proud of is when people who I’ve helped or inspired tell me that I really changed their outlook and help them feel better about how they see themselves. I think that what really sets me apart is the fact that I am 6’10” and can really find and put together clothing that looks great on me and that’s not always expected of big men, but it’s been something I’ve been doing since I was a teen, I even won best dressed in jr high school.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moments thus far have definitely happened this year and those are:

Getting the cover of, “’ Plus Model Magazine’: Sexy Summer Issue July 2019”.

Being nominated and winning, “Emerging Male Model of the Year”, by the Full Figure Fashion Industry Awards.
