Today we’d like to introduce you to Ray Moon.
Ray Moon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My first passion was basketball, that was my first love. Eventually, I started to lose my passion for the game and stopped playing. I was always an honor roll student and really active in school activities.
Something happened and I started losing myself and my inspiration. My grades started dropping and every month, my mom would switch my schools because she thought it was the company I kept. Overall I went to 8 different high schools in Atlanta. Transferring from high school to high school was exhausting. I started skipping days of school And eventually dropped out. I started writing in my diary more and then I started making my words rhyme. That’s when I realized I was writing poetry. My poetry was real dark at the time. I had a friend of mine that asked to read my diary at school that had a studio in his closet. He thought that I should try making a song and eventually I did. At first, it was really tricky, but the more I was comfortable, the more I got better. At that moment, my inspiration picked backed up & I was self-motivated by the responses my music was receiving. Music became my open book diary along with my therapy. Present-day, I have taken a more multifaceted role when it comes to creating music, by learning the business aspect of the music industry, I have understood the value of ownership as well as brand partnerships. I am currently an Official artist for Sprite and their Sprite Way artist campaign and my recent single “so sorry” is serves on the soundtrack for NBA2k20. All of my hard work and consistency have supported me to where I am today, I truly feel as though the sky is not my limit.
Has it been a smooth road?
Some obstacles that I have faced were the loss of my father at a young age. It took a long time to began to bounce back from that. Creating music helps me cope, it keeps me going.
Tell us more about your work.
As an artist, I focus on how can my music inspire others. As far as the business aspect, I strategically move with brands that are focused on inspiring and uplifting people.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Music is forever, it speaks multiple languages and it touches everyone. I feel like there will be no set genres, R&B won’t be R&B and Rap won’t be rap, etc. It will all be a beautiful blend of sounds that will make everyone feel.
