Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhonda Green.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I moved to Atlanta, I started out pursuing a career in acting. Being on stage was something I was always passionate about while in college and I was very good at! I majored in Business Administration but my heart was set on being on the big screen. However, life took a few turns for me and I ended up pregnant, a single parent, with very little support. I had to learn how to trust God in the midst of it all. It was during these times that I had endured many tests and trials in my life but I was also inspired to write. I didn’t know anything about writing a book or where to begin. But the more I wrote, the more I gained knowledge and understanding about the publishing industry, I was on my way to being a published author and I kept it a secret for over a year from everyone, including my family.
I was afraid that people would become critical but I also knew that I had a special assignment with my written works. When I released my first book, Divine Change, there were many who were inspired and saw themselves in the pages. They gained an understanding of things that they had been seeking answers for.
From the release of Divine Change, I was invited to speaking engagements at conferences and women’s empowerment workshops. I started a weekly blog called “Healing In Script” to further my purpose of helping to restore life back into those I encounter. Then in 2015, I started my own publishing company called One Agape Publishing which is now HIS Publishing. People may not ever go to a church or attend a motivational conference but they may read a book that will cause them to experience a divine change. My motto is: Be Encouraged, Inspired, and Motivated to be the GREATNESS that is with YOU!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I experienced homelessness 2 times in my journey. The first time I decided to step out and start my own business after leaving my good ole state worker job, and it completely flopped. The second time was because the company I was working with had to cut their budget which meant they had to downsize and I was one of the staff that was laid off. Another job didn’t come right away and my daughter and I became homeless. It was hard being homeless, raising a child, and trying to keep your sanity at the same time. I went through a period in my life where I lost trust in people and I lost trust in God. I was working a PT job serving the homeless while being homeless. My daughter and I had to sometimes sleep in our car when I didn’t have enough money to pay for an extended stay. My staff members never knew that some mornings I came in early before anyone arrived just so I could wash up in the company bathroom and change clothes without anyone noticing. We tried living with others, whom I thought were my friends, but I soon understood the definition of a “fair-weather friend”. Friendships come and go but real friends stick around for life. I quickly realized I didn’t have any ride or die friends back then. I even lost my car and we had to rely on public transportation. Thank goodness, my agency provided transportation assistance, otherwise, I wasn’t able to get back and forth to work.
My faith wasn’t where I thought it was either when the going got tough. When you’re sleeping in your car and you’re seeing others appear to be prospering, you began to question, where is God? But he was there all along. I had to have some reality checks with myself. I was trusting too much in other people and thinking that they were supposed to help me (some call it an entitlement mindset) but that wasn’t the case at all. No one has to do anything for you. They are only there to assist while you’re going through the transition but the rest has to come from you. I realized that I needed a mind adjustment. I was saying I trust you God but my thoughts, words, and actions weren’t lining up. That PT job turned into an FT salaried position and I was able to get back on my feet and move back into my own home. The journey was tough and long but I’m still standing to tell the story.
Please tell us about Healing In Script (HIS) – what should we know?
HIS Publishing, LLC is a publishing company that assists inspiring authors to write and publish their own books. We believe that everyone has a story to tell and your own experiences can help to inspire others. There are lessons that everyone has experienced in life and your story may help someone else in their journey. Whether it be a biography, poetry, teen novel, etc. We can help you get your book written, edited, copy written, and published regardless of age, sex, or nationality.
My greatest accomplishment is being able to assist a client, with a disability, to write and publish his book. He had a speech and physical barriers but he was very creative and had a desire to write a series of teen novels that were based on some of his personal challenges as a teen. It was such a joy to see how proud he was to publish his first book! It’s success stories like this that encourages me to keep doing what I do.
Our vision for 2020 is to kick off the HIS Conferences and Podcast in which we will have new and inspiring guest authors and workshops to expand our vision of helping others tell their story!
