Meet Ricketta Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricketta Johnson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Over the years as a young woman and through my adult years, I would kindly be presented with the phrases “girl you dress so cute”, or “Ketta, I like your outfit” or even “where do you shop at”. From that, family and friends would sometimes call and ask my opinion on what I thought of their particular outfit at that moment or what shirt or bottoms would go with this or that. I definitely didn’t consider myself a fashion guru by any means, but the part of me that liked putting different pieces together to see what appealed to me or that just simply liked getting dressed up was perhaps something that was brewing up that had not yet come full circle. At that point in my life, I started thinking upon the idea of entrepreneurship and what it is that I could perhaps see myself leaping into and committing myself to. And then birthed Gold Sick. Ironically, this was not even a passion of mines but rather a strength. So, I thought why not turn that strength into a business. The idea of what I wanted Gold Sick to look like to the world went through various changes on pin and paper before I actually presented it. Once I settled on that idea, I went full speed into creation and that what is seen today! From personally handpicking all my pieces to building out my website, I’ve been able to put my touch on the fashion industry through my virtual baby, Gold Sick.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like with anything in life, you will for sure have your rough moments; I would be lying if I said a haven’t experienced a struggle or two in this business. There would be times where I didn’t see the results I wanted to see or my creative juices just weren’t flowing and, as a result, my focus became clouded. From that, my commitment to the process and inconsistency became a struggle. However, by constantly keeping myself knowledgeable on certain topics and being aware of the possible gaps in my process, I’ve been able to break through struggles like these and/or adapt to change which in turn has shown me how to re-adjust my focus to better reach my goals, create consistency, and, overall, help me commit to the process.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Alongside building and expanding Gold Sick, I also obtain a full-time career in the financial industry, specifically in fraud. I have been in the fraud realm for over 10years specializing in investigations and financial crimes, though I also have a heavy hand in various other sectors of this industry. It excites me that I have the ability to create whatever life it is I want to create for myself with endless possibilities and, for that, I try to face every day with a sense of gratitude and make an effort to involve myself into what endeavor it is I desire.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Oddly, I can be a bit shy in front of the camera. I’m a bit of an introvert; not to the extreme but I am more acquainted with that end of the spectrum than I would an extrovert.
