Meet Royce Munn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Royce Munn.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Royce. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always been a funny, energetic person my whole life. A class clown in school and at times my behavior got me in trouble and other times it helped me get through life. I’m originally from St. Louis Missouri. I grew up with just my mom and no siblings it was hard finding friends so I always used my personality to attract attention and meet people to cure my loneliness. It was rough growing up in St. Louis so my mom moved me to Atlanta to have a better future when I was 15 years old. I was always getting kicked out of class or suspended for disruption and teachers told me I would never be anything in life and for a long time I believed them and didn’t care. I dropped out of high school at 11th grade got my GED and went to Atlanta Technical College for a year and soon found out I was still unhappy with my life.

I dropped out of college after one year and after that, I became homeless for a year so that led to a life of petty crimes which I got arrested for at 21. It wasn’t till one day my friend suggested I apply for background work as an actor and the first submission I did I was invited to work one episode of the walking dead season 3 episode 4. After that, I was invited to do more episodes and eventually got a featured role and was featured on seven episodes and the finale. I was told from the director to cry on cue. And that episode gave me a lot of exposure. It didn’t take long for me to see my self on the walking dead Wikipedia page and I was trending on all social media platforms. Soon after this, I realized this is what God wants me to do and instead of using my personality for bad I swore to use it to inspire and help people from every film I’m in. Shortly after the walking dead finale I auditioned for an independent film and booked a lead role in the movie “Good Wood” starring Cranston Johnson.

After this a month or so later I landed my biggest gig of all. I was cast as a lead in the film “A Christmas To Remember” starring Robin Givens and Darrin Henson. Where I actually had a story about me. After booking major roles, I started taking classes for the first time and got myself an agent. Since then I’ve been cast in numerous independent films, web-series and theater plays and shorts. Created my first short film a few months ago and it won best-directed film. I love acting and being the person I am not ashamed of covering it up I want to use acting to inspire others and to let them know anything is possible through God. I encourage others to chase your dream do something you love and never give up. Without acting, I wouldn’t be the man I am today. Acting saved my life and continues to save it everyday through all the trials and tribulations I go through. I tell everyone if it weren’t for acting I would either be dead or in jail. Acting is truly my savior.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth ride at all; I’ve been homeless thru the process incarcerated, and dealt with depression for a few years. It takes a lot of discipline, faith, and courage to keep going. At this point, I have nothing to lose and if I hadn’t been through the things I went through I most likely wouldn’t even have the discipline to continue my path. I’ve lost friends family and loved ones because of the path I’m taking now but its all worth it because I’m more closer to God than I ever been, and thankful for everything he’s blessed me with. I used to want to be a famous actor but now I cherish the craft itself. And don’t care about money at all. I just have a passion for entertaining and inspiring others.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m an actor who is all about versatility and being natural. Not pretending to be someone else but putting myself in the same situation. My main genre is comedy second is drama. I’m known for being funny my whole life and as I got older people noticed I can bring strong emotions to any situation. Some films I’m known for are “The Walking Dead” and A Christmas To Remember. I’m most proud of my first Lead role in a feature film called “Good Wood” because I feel like it was God-given I had never took any classes or had an agent or never been in any movie before. But yet I was cast with well-known actors. I stand out on my comedy because I’m an over the top energetic comedian since that’s who I am in real life. I do sounds weird noises faces imitations and a lot of running and dancing. I stand out with my drama because I’m the type of person who bottles all my emotions inside I don’t like expressing my feelings to anyone at all so when there’s is a camera in front of me I’m not just acting I’m releasing everything built inside. It’s me escaping reality.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Atlanta is growing fast as the “New Hollywood” all productions are coming here to film here. Atlanta is the best place to start off becoming an actor/actress. I would suggest anyone who is an aspiring actor to move here. A lot of people looking for talent as well as many supporters who are willing to help thanks to the southern hospitality down here.
