Meet Ruth Joseph of MaMaunited in South Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruth Joseph.

Ruth, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Newark, NJ and have always had a spirit of entrepreneurship. My mother sketched the interests from running a salon. Entrepreneurship became fascinating however I never wanted to pursue the lifestyle of one. My weekends would be spent assisting in the salon not realizing God was prepping my future. Today, I am a wife, mother, multi-dimensional entrepreneur and a women seeking after God’s heart. Owner of Xpress Your Kinks, a private hair salon specializing in natural hair braiding which focuses on healthier braiding techniques to promote the beauty of natural hair. I’ve been in business for over five years and have been successful in the industry. This past year, a passion to giving women hope became my strong focus, single women/single mothers. Because of my trials and tribulations from past relationships, I am now commitment to helping women refine define life after relationships has ended, promote self-love, parent tips and help develop habits for a more enriching relationship as a Relationship Coach.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Smooth road? More like deep pot holes every couple miles. Working as an entrepreneur, wife and a mom is challenging, you will experience many obstacles. I’ve always had a problems delegating. I’ve worked so hard to build that the fear of someone taking over or not really caring about your business the way you do can be a struggle.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about MaMaunited – what should we know?
I needed a name for my blog and mamaunited popped up and just went with it not realizing that later it would become a household name. Mamaunited was created as a way to gather moms all over the world to come together in unity. Support one another regardless of their ethnicity, religion, education background. As mothers we wear so many hats and pour into everyone every single day so to have a support system pouring into us gives us balance.

I just recently partnered up with the beautiful  Sukari Johnson in launching a meetup here in Atlanta called BossMomsATL . As business owners and Moms, we totally understand the level of stress it has on our bodies that we sometimes forget and to run a successful business we need people. The idea of building business relationships can be intimidating. Boss Moms ATL opens up a space for mompreneurs to mingle, promote their businesses and have a “MOMSAH” moment. Often times, people choose not to attend these kind of event because they are either scared of rejection, not confident enough, they don’t believe their business have a chance to succeed or they can’t relate with who they’re networking with. With Boss Mom ATL, the one thing we all have in common is that we are moms in business so all of us can relate. I’m most proud of the Mamaunited house brand because although I’ve experienced many bumps along the way, I didn’t quit! What sets me apart from others is knowing I’m using all my God-given talents to make this mama world go round and round.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I thank God every single day for allowing me to be the woman I was yesterday in order to birth the woman I am today. Without Him, life to me would be meaningless. I find purpose in serving others — that’s major. Major thanks to my sister for always believing that I could do the impossible. My best friend Kerry Damus, my pusher man, she’s the type of friend that would say you can fly and you’d believe it. And believe it or not my social media tribe supports me daily. I’m constantly being encouraged via my DM’s and thank God for good genuine people. It’s such a great feeling when the people you value, values you.
