Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryuchi Nidan.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’m a music producer and keyboardist in Tokyo. My solo project name is “antwarp 2nd floor.”
Two years ago, I became friends with VLSC Records crew on Instagram. VLSC Records is an innovative music label in Atlanta. One of them, Mull came to Tokyo last winter. We had a session at the studio in Shibuya. And this summer, I went to Atlanta, did a show with them at 808 Fest.
I was impressed by Atlanta people really really love music. Passion for music, moving body as they feel like is so hot. You can’t see the scene like that in Tokyo.
I want to be a bridge between Tokyo and the American South through experimental music. There are many challenging, unknown musicians. I became friends with some of them, Mull, Skybison, Charolastra, Deku, and The Glad Scientist from VLSC, and Urbandy, Kifferei, and Now I Am Become Death from Step Pepper Records in Birmingham. We will open parties in Tokyo someday.
Please tell us about your art.
My music is a mixture of electronic, hip-hop, jazz, game music, sound effect, and synthesizer. On stage, I play synth wearing a musk and hoodie. It’s kind of a dark experimental music hero.
I want to make music anyone never heard. As great pictures show a different sight before and after seeing it, extraordinary in life makes us open our mind. I want to help people have a broader perspective on daily worries.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Sometimes, I feel lonely because my music can not categorize any genre. But if you keep posting your work on SNS, someone who likes your work will appear. People who are watching your posts are not just close friends. SNS is a place of presentation and posting regularly is recommended.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can see my music videos on YouTube. “antwarp 2nd floor” is solo work. “antwarp” is my early day’s band set. Also, you can listen to “antwarp” EPs on Spotify or Apple Music.
