Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Shaikh.
Sara, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My love for photography began back in a high school photography class, I honestly never thought my hobby would turn into the profession I have today. Being an introvert made it easy for me to hide behind the lens and create. I started my photography career working at a portrait studio, photographing babies, toddlers and families for the most part. It wasn’t until a friend of the family noticed my hobby and suggested that I shoot her wedding until I really thought I could turn this into something special. A few years into the business and we began offering cinematography with the same concept as I wanted our films to tell a story and be unique.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Going full time with any freelancing career is definitely not easy and isn’t always going to be the smoothest road. There are certain risks you take starting your own business and I’ve definitely had my moments where I’ve questioned if this was the right move for me. With there being so much competition in the same market, you begin to wonder if you really stand out from your competitors. I’ve found that you have to not care so much about competition and instead focus on how you are going to be different and stand out.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the This Modern Love Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a full-service wedding photography and cinematography company based in Atlanta, GA. We are a group of creatives that want to tell the stories of our couples in the most natural way, whether it be through our photographs or short films. Every wedding is unique in its own way and we take time to get to know our clients and the vision they want for their big day! We take pride in knowing that we are passionate about what we do and always try new ways to be innovative.

I am very lucky to have a reliable team that shares the same interests and creative vision as me. Having these creative minds work together really brings out a dynamic final product, all while building lasting relationships with each couple we come across!
