Meet Savannah Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah Taylor.

Hi Savannah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am owner of “Slaylikev By Savannah Taylor” and “Slaylikev by Savannah Taylor Studio”. I offer custom hand-made wigs and install services located at Phenix Salon Suites in Buckhead. How I started? Well, I like to say my business was handed to me. I’ve always loved doing my hair along with friends and family. The first time I made a wig, I was 17-18 years old and I couldn’t afford to get my hair done honestly for prom. My mom gave me $100 dollars and with that, I had to find a dress, shoes, and at the same time manage to fit in hair, nails, and makeup! I never knew that moment would be blueprint of where I am today. So long story short, I got on Youtube figured out how to make something out of some cheap bundles I found online, and this was THE BEGINNING. After graduating high school, I didn’t have a plan. I had no interest in to going college. I had no idea what I wanted to do, where I wanted to go or even what I wanted to be. Never in my thoughts would I think today I’d be a business owner! In 2016 I got a job at a local beauty supply store in Mableton called “Beauty Mart”. It was right down the street from my home growing up and it was my favorite store in the world, they literally have everything! I remember customers would always come in and say “who did your hair?” “Where’d you get your hair from?” Soon, they were asking if I could make a wig for them or come get an install. After a while, I decided to finally take my first customer and after that, I realized maybe I could really do this. So I went to cosmetology school, got my license and Slaylikev was born!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If someone would’ve told me running a business would’ve been this hard, I would have never started, lol… and that’s just me being REAL. No road is smooth on this path. I’ve dealt with crazy clients, taken losses when it comes to money big and small. I recently just got my business Instagram of four years and almost 10,000 followers hacked and honestly that hurt the most because that’s how I interacted with my clients and potential clients! But what I do, I take a break allow myself to feel that emotion of anger, frustration, sadness etc. and when I’m ready to get back out in the game, I get back out in the game with a smile on my face and keep trusting that everything happens for the better in some crazy way. I keep going because this is something I never thought I’d be doing in a million years! I know this is cliche to day but this what really gets me out of bed in the morning. I could’ve gave up along time ago so why give up now!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Slaylikev, I offer handmade custom wigs using a sewing machine. What sets me apart is I make my wigs using the measurements of the circumference of my client’s head so that they’re units fit comfortably but snug. What also stands me out is my natural customization. I want my wigs including my client’s wigs to look NATURAL. I want you to question if this is my hair or not but be afraid to ask because that’s how good they look! That’s what I’m known for as well.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about my city is that there is never a dull moment. There’s something always going on if your with the right people. I can’t really say there’s anything to dislike other than the traffic, lol.
