Today we’d like to introduce you to Shakirah Clark.
Hi Shakirah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I wasn’t always into makeup growing up but once I got out of my tomboy stage, I started doing my own makeup. Even though I was trash at first, my friends would still let me do their lashes or eyebrows and the way I could put a smile on their faces always made my day better. That is always my goal when I finished anyone’s makeup. Enhancing someone’s beauty and making their day is always my top priority. I initially went to school to become a paramedic. Yes! I wanted to be in the medical field just like my mom. Unfortunately, I couldn’t finish because I have a weak stomach and I’ve seen some things that I wouldn’t want to see, so I dropped out! So plan B was into play! A year and a half later, I started working more on my craft and putting myself out there. Despite some of the things that were transpiring in my life at the time that would’ve made anyone fold under pressure gave me the strength to keep going. Consistency, commitment, dedication, artistry and ambition is how I’ve been described. No matter how much I’ve prevailed in life, I still work and move with grace. At the age of 24, born and raised on the west side of Atlanta, GA. I’m blessed and highly favored, even though some days I wanted to quit. I’m doing better than I was last year and that is what’s most important.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing ever comes easy. I was a trash MUA first starting out. My work was not top tier, lol. It was never about the money for me, it just came to me over time. People are not your friend in this game. It’s like a hustle for most and they will do anything to try and cross you out. Relationships can wait. Dealing with an immature individual can really sidetrack you. They’ll slow you down if you don’t have the right partner on your side. I’ve just always prayed and remained focused during ruff times. I had a plan. Worked towards that plan and Executed it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a makeup artist. I specialize in natural soft glams and glitter glam. I’m best known for my freestyle looks and I’m proud of being able make each and everyone’s face I touch feel like they’re the most beautiful person in the world. I’m a free spirit so I let people express themselves through my work. This is their moment when they sit in my chair.
What makes you happy?
Happiness comes from within. I’m high off life so I’m happy to be healthy and living. Everyday I choose to be happy with every decision I make in life. It takes a lot of energy to be upset and mad so I choose happiness over anything, no matter what’s going on.
