Today we’d like to introduce you to Shalise Jones.
Hi Shalise, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The Supermarket Co. was founded in May of 2019 as an Independent Designer brand that inspires Aesthetic in modern everyday life. We initially came up with the idea a year prior to market our audience to children with the intent to sell premium clothing. However, we’ve grown with our company over the course of a couple of years, gaining new insight and fresh ideas. We got to where we are by staying focused on our mission as a company, always innovating, and finding different ways to scale and be more creatively spontaneous.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Running a company has not been an easy path, business will be complex. I believe it takes time to find your strengths and what you can improve on overall to make your operation run smoothly. Some of the struggles I’ve dealt with is time management. There is never enough time in one day to create all of what I have planned, especially when I’m always thinking of new ideas. Secondly would be balance; having a daughter and running a company was a new adjustment in the beginning, over time I have not only found that balance but can show and teach my daughter everything I know.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Supermarket Co.. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Supermarket Co. Is a lifestyle contemporary born out of Philadelphia, poised with premium craftsmanship and modern casual elements, exhibited as ready-to-wear and made-to-order collections. What sets our brand apart is that we are both a symbol of the foundational American family and hereditary stories. We combine American values with emphasis on the modern everyday individual, a visual expression on American style and culture itself. What I am most proud of is being able to create a brand that’s meaningful with someone that shares those same views and understands the importance of our history.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My best advice for anyone that has a business is to network with like-minded individuals and do research. There is always room to learn more, and never be afraid to ask questions. What has worked well for me is having strong communication within my team, talking about what we like, what we want to accomplish, those conversations are important and they give me clarity moving forward.
