Today we’d like to introduce you to Shameia Crawford.
Shameia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started performing music in elementary school. I traveled with my dad’s Stage Play “Come A long way” occasionally and would sing “Hero” by Mariah Carey. I did the Gospel Choir scene as a Teenager and earned a Degree in Classical Voice in College. Music has afforded me World travels and associations with some of the best in the Music Industry. Singing background for Angie Stone. Recording on Vashawn Mitchell’s “Created4This” album, and Ice Cube’s 2018,” Everythang’s Corrupt” album. I sang my way to the Semi-finals on the 1st season of “Rising Star” Singing Competition on ABC in 2014. To date, I’ve released five albums. Recently releasing My Holiday Album, “Here With You” on November 22nd on digital platforms. With the leading single “Hold On To That Feeling” all Produced by Grammy Winner Michael Crawford/”Magnedo7″.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My biggest challenge has been staying TRUE TO ME. Church was really my only outlet for as long as I could remember and often my desire to “FLY” beyond those four walls came with its own religious criticisms. So it has been a journey. To be a believer, and sing about life and maintain integrity. But, I choose to keep walking in my truth.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
As a business, I specialize in Song Arranging and Writing, Performing, and Play & Screenwriting. Every aspect benefits the other. One thing I’m most proud of is my ability to adapt and reinvent. Sometimes you go with the tide, and other times you have to take a risk. It ultimately works itself out.
I’m known for singing, and there’s always the question of “Where did this big voice come from?” But there’s more beyond the voice. There’s many stories that have yet to be told through music and theater. I debuted my first Musical Stage Play (MOMS MUSICAL) in May 2018, with all original Music and Script. We sold out two shows.
What sets me apart is I’m a risk-taker, and I’m consistent. Over the Thanksgiving holiday, I got a group of friends and family together to perform a Flash Mob to my “Hold on to that feeling” single, from my “Here with you” Holiday album. It was my first Flash Mob, but the idea popped in my head. I came up with the Choreography and organized something I’ve never done. At times it seemed as if it wasn’t going to happen. But I pushed forward and we did it successfully! The video is on YouTube. It was so much fun!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I was privileged to perform as a Singer in a Couple of films that come to theaters next year. Last summer, we started an Educational camp in North Carolina that blended Performing Arts with Basic Life Skills. These are just a few things, not to mention those I’m unable to speak on at the moment, 2020 is definitely a promising and exciting year!
