Meet Shana Hannibal of CHARLOTTE (but loves midtown)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shana Hannibal.

Hi Shana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Orangeburg, South Carolina and attended College of Charleston. While there, I earned a degree in education, and later a Master’s degree in education from Capella University. After graduation, I moved to Charlotte and taught in South Carolina for 6 years. While teaching , I earned my second degree in Administration from University of South Carolina. Currently, I am an assistant principal and author.

I began writing as an outlet. It provides relief and entertainment. I prefer children’s books, but I occasionally write academic pieces as I prepare for professional development presentations.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. I got married and had my children right out of college. Juggling work, my master’s programs and writing has been tough. I always have to find balance.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I taught English for 10 years before becoming an assistant principal and writer. Being an avid reader, I wanted more black love stories and mysteries. I also wanted more black stories for women like me. So, I decided to fill the gap.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
If you have a bookclub or social event and would like a guest speaker, please invite me.
