Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaquita Smith.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Shaquita. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Actress/Producer, born February 27, 1990. Originally From Birmingham, Alabama in a small place called McDonald Chapel. I started out with a full scholarship in theatre at Troy State University. I decided that I wanted to further my career as an actress and moved to Atlanta, Georgia to do that. As I was pursuing my career and continually pursuing my career, I found the love of producing my own productions from theatre and film. In 2014, I met Marcus Collins and Jamal Mcwhorter who are now my business partners in Loud films Inc. As we joined the company, we found ourselves wanting to bring diversity to our films and originality. Loud films have produced almost four films and a few short films since 2014.
Currently, we are in pre-production with our next film called “Switched at Love” that will start shooting in April. As an Actress and Producer, I love creating and being a part of great projects from small to big. I’ve traveled all over the world to pursue my career as an actress and continually to strive for excellence in our production company. I got to where I am with persistence and wanted to be better every single day. I got where I am today by having a support system which was my grandmother. My grandmother, Yvonne Underwood believed in me when no one else did. I believed that I can with her smile. I wanted to elevate my appearance, my craft, my resume and also my peers. I am never comfortable with my current environment. I believe if you want more, you do more. I am always challenging myself to new things, new ideas and new innovative ways to think.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My road hasn’t been easy at all! Dealing with personal situations such as my grandmother passing last year of 2018, I had a bad breakup in 2017, which I was in full depression. I was not working as an actress and also not booking as an actress for a few years. I had so many no’s from representation, from casting directors, from producers and etc. Having to deal with personal issues along with fighting for your dreams hasn’t been easy for me. Films that Loud film as a company produced when we started out wasn’t the best films to showcase. We had bad post productions and didn’t receive any money from the films we produced.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Loud Films – what should we know?
I am one of the producers and part owner of Loud Films. We produce variety of films that are diverse and speaks to all types of audience members. We are known for thinking outside of the box in Atlanta, Georgia and giving actors the opportunities to showcase their talent via theatrical release, Video-on-demand and much more. I am proud of the company for never giving up and stretching to new heights with each film that we do. Last year, we produced a horror film, this year we are producing a romantic comedy, next year-possibly an action-thriller. So our stories are always completely different.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Determination, persistence, adaptability and focused. I also believe in God and pray all the time. I could not be where I am today if it wasn’t for God’s favor.
