Wanting to take matters into her own hands while also continuing her family’s global business legacy, Shauna W. launched B.A.E Brunch+Events for women needing support and guidance in starting a business. Having an entrepreneurial spirit from her late grandmother Sylvia Woods of the world-famous Sylvia’s Restaurant, Shauna W. grew up in the family business. From an early age, she was introduced to the family business and the importance of being your OWN B.A.E.
B.A.E: Building An Empire was initially just a general concept for apparel; however, Shauna W. saw the vision in taking her creation to another level. Her vision is to connect like-minded women seeking to build, needing support, and expanding their business over brunch (bottomless mimosas) and events. Shauna W. is also a passionate 15+ year education veteran, author of two successful educational books, and a consultant. She has taught in some of the best schools in Harlem, New York and Atlanta, Georgia.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting a business is never a smooth journey! Experiencing obstacles and challenges are just a few hurdles an entrepreneur will experience when starting a business; how we overcome them are testimonies to our success stories. For me, it was fear; fear of taking the risk associated with being a business owner and stepping outside of my comfort zone. I didn’t want to live my life with regrets, so fear became my motivation.
Although, I grew up in the family business and was familiar with the in’s and out’s of what it took to be successful. I continuously encourage myself through prayer and faith, ‘I can do this; it’s already in me, I got this!’ This was my daily mantra.

B.A.E Brunch + Events is a global women empowerment movement for current and aspiring entrepreneurial women to connect, gather, and share knowledge over brunch and events.
B.A.E Brunch + Events provides an outlet where women can empower each other and establish business relationships (and friendships) that can carry on throughout their entrepreneurial endeavors.
B.A.E: Building An Empire is a movement! A movement of women starting and grinding to build an empire for themselves and their families.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Prayer, faith, and gratitude are the key roles in my life. It also plays a significant part in my business. However, so does hard work. Success doesn’t just land on your lap; you have to put in the work.
