Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Moore.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Shelby. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Makeup makes me happy, and that’s how this journey began to the Haus of Moore. As a young African American female, life has always been full of challenges. Whether that consisted of finding knowledge of self, the constant pressure of society, or even finding a career path. I had to find a balance in my daily routine, something that calmed my spirit as well as challenged my inner creativity. So my art of choice was makeup, and believe me, I wasn’t always good at it. I started doing my own makeup as a therapy session to level out life’s stressors. After posting a few pictures and videos on my social media, people started to inquire on booking services. It was extremely hard for me to take the leap into entrepreneurship due to my fear of failing, and like many others I am my toughest critic when it comes to my art. Going from a personal therapy activity to a career wasn’t the initial plan, however God slowly gave me vision. I’ve taken many falls as an artist. There were times where I’ve had zero clients, zero support, and I second-guessed myself because of it.
However, staying consistent and investing into my brand opened a major door for my clientele, and now my booking rate has increased tremendously. Haus of Moore is a combined product of art, love, and beauty. As a self-taught Makeup Artist, Cosmetologist, and Lash Technician, I am only looking to expand my brand as deep into the beauty industry as possible. From hosting virtual makeup sessions to personal one on one’s, the growth possibilities are endless. My goal is to become an on set makeup artist for film and television, and I am constantly educating myself on the newest trends and techniques. I now know that consistency & ambition is key. You have to want success for yourself more than the fear of failing. Know that you will fall on your journey to becoming whomever it is you want to be, just remember that falling is what makes you an even more appreciative winner.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road to beauty is actually pretty ugly. The industry is flooded with artist who have the exact same dreams and goals, however you have to find what separates you from everyone else. On top of finding what makes you different, there are the financial roadblocks that every emerging entrepreneur will face. Trying to live a normal life that includes your personal bills, needs, and occasional wants can often interfere with business expenses. However, you must learn to sacrifice and most importantly BUDGET. Lastly, support hasn’t always been here. In the beginning, I had zero supporters, and that was probably one of my biggest fears. However, staying consistent and investing into my brand was extremely important when trying to gain supporters. People will only believe in you as much as you believe in yourself.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Haus of Moore – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
