Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheryl Cherico.
Sheryl, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was the IT Director for Atlanta Cardiology, the largest cardiology group in the Southeast at that time. I saw the move to electronic medical records and the need within the medical community for good, solid IT support. In 2005, I went out on my own and had Atlanta Cardiology as a cornerstone client. They then moved to Piedmont in 2008, which allowed me more time to focus on my business. Today, we are one of the largest Managed Service Providers (MSP’s) for healthcare. We only service medical practices.
Our model is to become the IT department for medical practices that either need more than they have or that are too small but need good solid IT support. With the electronic medical records, you need stability and there is more of a sense of urgency. There wasn’t as much of an urgency when you had the paper chart. Fast forward and you need more stability and there is zero tolerance for downtime. Especially, when you have your patient sitting on your exam table.
Tier3MD has grown substantially over the past 13 years and have a plan in place to double in size by 2020. We have had a steady incline over the past 13 years, however not a lot of time was spent on marketing. We have implemented a new marketing strategy and a new marketing team that we know will allow us to tap into the full market across the country.
In 2018, Tier3MD purchased Discovery Computers and Forensics in order to expand its offering with digital forensics and security. Tier3MD will be growing by marketing and acquisitions.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has had many ups and downs. The biggest struggle was when hospitals bough up the large practices. We were a small company at the time and it hurt, but at the same time, it made us stronger. We had to work hard to survive and we did.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Tier3MD story. Tell us more about the business.
Tier3MD focuses solely on medical practices and the healthcare industry. We are proud of the product we deliver to our customers. We are extremely proud of the processes we have put in place over the last 13 years that allow us to provide top notch service.
We are very different from others. Our strong focus on HIPAA and security sets us apart and the addition of the digital forensics definitely gives us the opportunity to protect our clients better.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I always say I am lucky but others will disagree. When a door was open a crack, I pushed it open and walked right through. I don’t wait for a seat at the table. I start the table and invite others.
