Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Mitchell.
Stephanie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My yoga journey started in 2007 when I was in college. After taking many classes, I began to cultivate my own home practice and inspired other to practice with me. I loved the fact that it incorporated both mind and body! So many people I would talk to would say that they wanted to start incorporating yoga into their daily routine but could not find the time, or were intimidated by the large studio classes. After a stent in the corporate world, I decided get certified and go out on my own to make this beneficial and effective practice more accessible to my community and across the country. My love for travel was also a big influence on making this a mobile platform.
I launched The Rolling Mat – Mobile Yoga Studio in October of 2016 and hit the ground rollin’! I took TRM to 3 music festivals which was an amazing experience, started teaching corporate classes, used my event planning degree and put together fun-filled Beer Yoga events at Red Hare Brewery & Second Self Brewery as well as other creative events throughout Atlanta. I also started offering private lessons to help other deepen their practice through the foundations of the yoga practice.
I now offer in studio classes at affiliated locations and launched my online studio where you can practice with me 3 times per week!
Has it been a smooth road?
To be totally honest, no…It has not been smooth by any means! However, it has been a lot of fun and the people I have met have had lasting impact on me. Starting any business is hard! Merging my love and passion for the yoga practice and what it means to me with the concepts of running a business and making ends meet has been a challenge.
By nature, I am genuine, caring and heart-centered and being able to portray these qualities to my students is very important to me. It was a difficult adjustment because as a small business, you take a lot of blows both financially and emotionally. Every day provides a new challenge, which I am thankful for because it keeps me on my toes, inspires me to improve my craft, and helps me stay mindful of the importance of what I do.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a certified Vinyasa flow yoga instructor that strives to connect others to themselves and their communities through movement, breath, and mindfulness. I am different in that I focus on beginner and foundational yoga to help my students create their own unique practice while providing instruction on proper alignment, breath connect and safe transitions.
I launched The Rolling Mat – Mobile Yoga Studio to tame my wandering spirit and to make the practice more accessible and affordable to any level of yogi wanting and willing to learn. I offer in studio (Atlanta residents) and online class memberships. I put together effective and informative private sequence breakdowns for those looking to deepen their practice or those that are not ready for in studio classes. I have footprint in the corporate world, providing destressing sequences for employees and during the spring and summer, I travel to music and arts festivals and spread the yoga love to the attendees!
I am most proud of the impact I have been able to have on my students in any of these arenas. My heartfelt approach has helped others both physically and mentally. Many students tell me that they feel like they accomplished something, or were able to let go of what was ailing them after taking one of my classes. This is why I do what I do and this is why I will take The Rolling Mat to new heights within the coming years.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes. I feel like Atlanta and the surrounding areas are great for my business. It is highly competitive so that is why you have to get creative with the approach you use and how you set yourself a part from others in your business.
There are many wonderful yoga teachers and many great yoga studios popping up everywhere around the area. I stay unique because of my platform and my teaching style, the only complaint that you would hear from me and many other residence is, traffic and transit!
