Meet Stuart McClean of Inertia’s Root in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stuart McClean.

Stuart, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As the proud owner and CEO of Inertia’s Root Premium Hemp, It’s an honor to share our story. I grew up within the Dallas metropolitan area as a youth. Upon completing high school, I enrolled at Tennessee State University to pursue a degree in psychology and play football. During my sophomore season, I suffered a torn rotator cuff injury that required surgery and rehab. After a follow-up visit to my physician, he also discovered I had Crohn’s disease, which causes the inflammation of your digestive tract. My experience dealing with the debilitating impacts of post-surgery opioids and Crohn’s began my search for a holistic pain management solution.

Upon completing both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from TSU, I spent the next ten years working in corporate America. I took a job selling medical devices and did very well for myself for the next few years. Unfortunately, the company decided to close without warning, which left me a few weeks away from my wedding date unemployed. After experiencing my first lay-off, I began taking steps to achieve my passion of becoming a full-time entrepreneur. A few months later, I got offered a job working in the addiction treatment industry. The job allowed me to fulfill a desire to help others and utilize my degree in psychology. It also shed light on the massive demand for holistic options for individuals suffering from substance abuse, mental health issues, and chronic pain. Just after having my first child, I found my self laid-off a second time. Being unemployed at such a vital time in my life made me realize, and I need to become more self-sufficient. The skills acquired working in the medical industry served as the foundation for Inertia’s Root.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Transitioning into a full-time cannabis entrepreneur has been one of the hardest decisions and challenges of my life. The most significant problem would be finding quality help that shares a passion for the industry. It’s easy to find yourself in a compromising situation if you aren’t vigilant. The hemp industry, although legal, also has banking issues that we hope to get resolved with the proposed “Safe Banking Act.” The road has not been easy at all; every day is a new challenge but also an opportunity to get better!

Tell us about your business/company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
Personal experiences, educational background, and cannabis knowledge serve as the pillars of our brand. We’ve spent over ten years traveling the world to learn as much about cannabis and holistic medicine as possible. In 2017, we acquired our first hemp cultivation and processing license. The following year we launched inertiasroot.com as an online retailer for direct home delivery of our products. We also established a Co-op for local hemp farmers that require our services.

Inertia’s Root is one hundred percent minority-owned and operated. In the booming cannabis world, minorities make up less than three percent of the industry. We’ve made it our civic duty to inspire people of color to get involved in the space. One of our primary goals is to help break the stigma behind the use of cannabis as a safe, holistic option.

We specialize in providing premium quality hemp supplements to urban professionals. Each product we make is compliant with federal regulation and tested by a third-party lab to assure the highest quality. As a retailer, we are best known for our Arctic Sunburst hemp balm. Our balm has been reviewed and endorsed by several professional athletes and physicians as a safe, holistic option to manage aches and pains. We are most proud of the impact our products are having on our community and their ability to help improve the quality of life.

What sets us apart is that we are the one-stop-shop for everything hemp industry related. As a wholesaler, we specialize in offering supply-chain logistics from seed to sale. We currently provide and deliver products to businesses in a total of 48 states. Our services include peer to peer transportation, bulk biomass processing, white-label services, harvesting solutions, and consulting.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My fondest memory as a child would have to be fishing with my grandfather and learning the awesome stories of my family linage.
