Today we’d like to introduce you to Tabari Rashid.
Tabari, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Everything for me started in 2010. I was a brand new father, I was unhealthy, overweight and unemployed. I’d recently quit my job at QuikTrip to become a stay at home dad. The plan was to find a new job within 60 days so we could quickly get things back to normal. Everyday I got out my notebook and made time to write down, not only my goals, but the things I enjoyed doing as well.
I wanted to figure out how I could merge these two things together to create something new for myself in order to provide for my daughter. This task was much harder than I anticipated and then the days turned into weeks, then to months, then almost a year of being a stay at home dad trying to find my direction. I had been picking up odd jobs to help make ends meet but nothing permanent. I was getting severely overweight and my unhealthy habits were starting to become the norm. Though I loved every moment of being at home raising my daughter, I knew I had to step up and make something happen quick. One weekend I was invited by a group of friends to come out and play football. This was great because it allowed me to network and be active at the same time. By the second weekend of playing, I had met a guy who said his company was hiring and a week later, I had a brand new permanent job! I was excited though I knew that this job didn’t line up with all my goals that I had been consistently writing down everyday, but I needed to do what I had to do.
I was working at my new for about two months when one weekend while playing football, I tore my ACL. This was devastating because my new position required me to stand up all day. I hadn’t been there long enough to qualify for any medical coverage or any leave of absence days, so I ended up losing my job. So I was back at home with my daughter…….overweight, unhealthy, and unemployed…but I still had my notebook full of goals and ideas. When I opened the notebook again, I saw one goal that stood out more than the rest….’to help others.’ In that moment, I knew that the best way for me to help others was to help myself first. All my goals and ideas had finally come together, I was going to become a trainer. I enrolled in school to get my training certification and license. I started working at LA Fitness. I started training myself and lost 50 lbs all on my torn ACL. I knew I was ready to help people change their lives for the better.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Lol No! Definitely not a smooth road. The struggle of starting and maintaining business is always hard. There are so many times that you’re going to fail in the process. There have been times where I’ve only had 2 or 3 clients for months or the facility I was at got suddenly shut down. You have to be able to figure things out and make things happen quickly because you have people depending on you to help them. One struggle I had was in 2015 when I finally got the surgery to repair my ACL that I tore back in 2011. I got my surgery done on a Thursday and I was back in the gym training my clients, that Monday, on crutches. I had to learn to walk all over again. I had to rehab all over again. But this rehab I was able to inspire my clients and show them that anything is possible once you fully commit to it. I showed them that quitting was never an option but to F.A.I.L..is just your F.irst A.ttempt I.n L.earning. We all struggle but we can’t quit because once you quit nothing gets done.
True Spirit Fitness – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My company is True Spirit Fitness and I specialize in changing people’s lives from the inside out. I use fitness as a tool to help people overcome personal fears, unhealthy habits and start living a life filled with personal achievements and happiness. I train clients virtually thru my True Spirit Fitness Mobile App as well as in person training for my local clients. I also provide virtual health and wellness consultations for anyone who needs support achieving their goals. I give professional advice, strategy, and tips for beginners just getting started with fitness or to help regular gym goers make their current workouts more efficient and see more permanent results.
I would say I’m known for the impact that my training has on people. I have clients that have HUGE physical transformations, not only have they changed their appearance, but their whole outlook on the type of L.I.F.E. they would like to live. I coach permanent positive habits that translate into a brand new lifestyle.
Some of the things that set me apart from others is that in addition to being a trainer, I am also a Holistic Nutritionist and Master Herbalist. With this knowledge at hand, my clients get a true, all-natural, and holistic transformation starting from the inside out. I also provide juice cleanses, detoxes, and meal plans for anyone who may need that type of service.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success, for me personally, has always been making my daughter proud. She was the reason I changed my life and decided to help others do the same. She has always been my compass for personal success which then transfers to my professional success. When I see my clients relating to their L.I.F.E. (L.ove I.nspiration F.amily E.nlightenment) in a better way, then I know we’re on the right track for success. Watching my clients become better versions of themselves is also a great feeling of success. I’ve had two pack a day smoker clients become distance runners, I’ve helped clients get healthy enough to donate a kidney to save a family members life, I’ve turned working moms into powerlifters, I’ve trained gold medal-winning Olympic Lifting athletes, clients with Parkinson’s, MS, PCOS, you name it…and I’ve been there working with all types of people helping them become the best versions of themselves. It brings me joy when I’m able to watch my clients achieve things that they never they could do.
