Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Capel-Wilson.
Tamara, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve worked in Luxury Retail for over 20 years. I started my career in sales, sales management to Store Director, giving me a solid foundation in the business of fashion. I’ve previously worked with some of today’s top designer brands such as Vera Wang Bridal, Tiffany & CO, Tumi, and Shinola Detroit. Throughout my career path, I’ve always created a lane for myself to explore entrepreneurship. My love for contemporary art, fashion, photography, and beauty gave me the inspiration to start the Mutha Art Gallery.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
EASY, not at all! Starting a new business is very challenging especially when I was working a 9-5 and tackling motherhood. Some major challenges are getting brand awareness being an e-commerce brand. Wearing many hats while stating a new business prioritizing is mandatory. I am the photographer, model, marketer, business operations, etc. you get my point lol! I’ve learned I must ask for help! My ten-year daughter Riley is a lifesaver with helping me tackle the creative side of Mutha Art Gallery. My little assistant has sparked an interest in entrepreneurship starting her new lipgloss brand Holo Lips. Proud MUTHA!
The biggest obstacle thus far is being hit with a world pandemic within my first year of business. Patience is what I’ve surrendered to in the second year of business.
We’d love to hear more about Mutha Art Gallery.
Mutha Art Gallery is an online destination for you to get inspired and shop. You will find a curated collection of everyday goods inspired by ART + STYLE. From art prints to home goods and apparel is what you’ll find on muthaartgallery.com, the perfect mix of dope gifting to self-indulgence. The “MUTHA” apparel is the essential signature line that highlights the FEARLESS + CONFIDENT + BADASS woman on the move. I like to call them “Muthas on the move.”It’s about kicking fear in the face, being a badass, and going after what you want with confidence. Being a mother I know you can still have it all by doing what you love. When rocking “MUTHA” a woman knows she is that…MUTHA!
I’m most proud of being the artist and designer behind the brand which sets the Mutha Art Gallery apart. I source all the fabrics to ensure garments are soft, comfortable and quality is on point. Every detail is extremely important to me including how each purchase is packaged up for my customers. It all goes back to ART!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The fall release is dropping soon! Expand the product line and partner with brands that have the same energy and vibe as M.A.G. My ultimate goal is to get “MUTHA” goods in museum gift shops and art galleries for in-store customer experience.
