Meet Tannera George and Adrienne Harris of The Book’d Store

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tannera George and Adrienne Harris.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Book’d was sparked in 2016 when co-founder Tannera gifted co-founder Adrienne with a designer planner for her 26th birthday. While both were impressed with the quality and presentation of the planner, they noticed that there were some features that could be more closely tailored to their unique needs as black millennial entrepreneurs who are committed to personal development.

What began as a conversation around features that could optimize their new planners quickly evolved into a lifestyle brand, with the Book’d planner collection as the flagship product offering.

While it was certainly a passion project to bring excitement and pizazz to a space that was lacking, it was also fueled by necessity due to underemployment and discontentment at being undervalued at our respective jobs. We realized that like ourselves, so many other Black women are starting businesses and becoming “sidepreneurs” to fill a financial gap, and we wanted to create a product that would help women organize their lives and hold themselves accountable as they worked toward creating more fulfilling lives for themselves.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road to success hasn’t been easy, but we are enjoying the journey and love the impact Book’d has on its customers.

Our number one business challenge has been growing our customer base large enough to take advantage of economies of scale. Since our primary product is seasonal and somewhat time-sensitive, we have been focused on increasing our marketing efforts so that we are confident in increasing our order volume with our manufacturer to realize the cost efficiencies associated with larger production volumes.

As the fate of the United States Postal Service grows more uncertain, we anticipate challenges with meeting customer’s expectations in terms of shipping and delivery timeframes. If the troubles persist, a new challenge will be vetting and testing alternate carriers to deliver our products to our customers.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Book’d is a luxury stationery & lifestyle brand for Black women that is super stylish and uniquely quirky. Our brand is located at the intersection between productivity and culture, faith, and entrepreneurship.

Our goal was to create a meaningful representation of who we are as Black women and develop a full experience that exceeded what we saw in the stationery market in terms of value, appeal, and functionality.

We are most known for our Book’d Planners. Book’d & Busy, Book’d & Blessed, and Book’d & Black are three specialized planners that cater to the unique needs to Black women in the areas of entrepreneurship, faith, & culture.
