Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya Sykes-Clark.
Tanya, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Being a Speech Pathologist is a change of career for me. My son was diagnosed with a speech disorder when he was four years old. At the time I was a Real Estate Agent / Medical assistant. At the time I was desiring to go back to school but was not sure of the career path to follow. When I saw the progress my son made and the way he changed to be more confident, I realized I wanted to see the same joy in the lives of others. I decided to go back to school to become a Speech-Language Pathologist. I worked for several years in various settings (schools, nursing homes, hospitals, early intervention, and private practice) and decided in 2020 to go into business with my partner in our community. I now am co-owner of a multidisciplinary practice (we offer both Speech and Mental Health Services) located in South Fulton, GA and we service both children and adults.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This road has been anything but smooth along the way. There have been several bumps with location, community, and even being connected with the right service entities, but our desire to offer quality and efficient service to the people and families in our community keeps us going.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Resilient Focused Family Therapy, LLC?
Resilient Focused Family Therapy is a small multi-disciplinary practice located in South Fulton, GA. We offer both Speech and Mental Health Services for children and adults. As members of this community, we realized the unique need for both Speech and Mental Health in the area and determined this would offer the best of both worlds to the individuals and families in this area. We have heard many times that such a partnership is unique in that most times Speech Therapy is coupled with other areas such as Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Behavioral Therapy, but not often Mental Health. At Resilient Focused Family Therapy our motto is “Transforming lives one family at a time” This statement means a lot to us because we have had our own transforming experiences from the assistance of providers such as ourselves and watched our families change and grow. We want to be the part of such experiences for other individuals and families and watch as the change and transform for the betterment of themselves and others.
What’s next?
For the future, we hope to add more service providers in both the Speech and Mental Health areas as well as offer additional services such as Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Behavioral Health. We are currently looking for areas for location and expansion to be able to accommodate many more families.
