Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatyana Fulton.
Tatyana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had a passion for candles! I would purchase candles all the time and gift them to my friends. One day, I was talking to my mom about making candles and that was in like 2016… but I told her that I wanted to start making my own candles and selling them. She thought it was a great idea. It wasn’t until 2018 when I ran across another candle maker, Lit Bklyn and got inspired!
Still, I was hesitant about doing it! I then ran the idea by a few more people to see how they felt and everybody was very supportive! So I took a candle making class with one of good friends at Candle Fish located in Ponce city market in August of 2018. I fell in love with the whole process! By September of 2018, my business was registered and I was working. I stepped out on faith and had the backing of my family and friends to help spread the word about the business.
Has it been a smooth road?
This journey for my business and myself has not been easy! We have experienced good times and bad times but we are grateful for it all because it has given us the opportunity to learn from our mistakes and grow. It is challenging at times but figuring out what works best for your business is key!
To be honest, me showing up for my business was a real struggle after a while. I was overwhelmed, working a 9 – 5 then coming home to work on dreams. I was tired. Nights were long and being that I was not doing right by my business, my business was not prospering as it should have been.
My focus for 2020 and the years to come is to show up consistently for my business!

Sweet Wax Candle Co. is a candle company that is based in East Atlanta. We provide our customers with all-natural handmade products. All of our products are made with love to ensure that our customers love their products; it means a lot to us! When we first started making candles, we specialized in custom candles that became keepsakes for a lot of our customers. We have since grown and added tin candles, wax melts, and room sprays to our product list. We are known for our excellent customer service, quality products, and guaranteed sweet scents that are sure to fill up your home!
As a company, we are proud of our growth and continuous support from the community. Word of mouth for our candle business has been phenomenal. We have been blown away with all the love we have received since opening a year ago. Year one was only the beginning for us as we expand and offer so much more in year two. Our business is here to stay and we plan on making Sweet Wax a household name!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, I feel like Atlanta is a great place to start a business. It is full of resources! There are people here who are willing to help you and your business grow. I feel like this is the time to start a small business here in Atlanta due to the availability of resources. You just have to do your research and be willing to work because there is a lot of support here for small businesses like mine.
