Meet Taylor Hunter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Hunter.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been inspired by art. I was always drawing, crafting, painting, or doing something creative in general. There was something about creating that lit a spark inside of me. I received my first digital camera sometime in middle school and I found joy in capturing moments. During my senior year of high school, I asked my parents for a DSLR camera to capture events happening around campus and I fell in love. One of my good friends asked me if I could capture her senior photos and the rest is literally history. Since then, I’ve never put my camera down.

In college, I pursued an undergraduate degree in Psychology at LSU but deep down inside I knew I wanted to study the arts. Throughout college, I did photography on the side here and there. Once I graduated, I decided that it was time to really take photography seriously. While growing my photography skills, I worked as a Program Manager for a creative arts non-profit in Louisiana for two years. In April this year, I decided to take a leap of faith to pursue photography full time. Four months later in August, I decided to take another risk by moving to Atlanta to grow my career even further. I honestly never would have imagined that I’d be pursuing photography fulltime but I’m so happy that decided to follow my heart. It’s been the best decision that I’ve ever made.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s definitely been a journey. I’ve pursued photography for over 7 years now and I’m extremely grateful for all of the bumps along the way. I think the hardest part has probably been battling my own imposter syndrome. It’s so easy to compare yourself or listen to everyone else’s opinion on why you should “get a real job”. The opinions of others don’t matter because it isn’t their journey. If you are passionate and work hard at something, you will grow.

I’ve constantly reminded myself that success doesn’t happen overnight. You have to get up every day and give it your all. I’ve conditioned myself to focus less on the outcome and more on the process. Every time I pick up my camera, I am growing and getting better. There isn’t a moment on this journey that I take for granted. I think the secret really is to just never give up. If you fall down, get back up and try again. But NEVER quit.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
You can find me capturing anything from lifestyle portraits to concerts to conferences & events. As of lately, I like to think that I specialize in capturing content for dream chasers and go-getters. I feel like with our generation the sky is really the limit and we are bringing our dreams to life. So, I really enjoy shooting content for other entrepreneurs, brands, and businesses. I gravitate towards shooting content that is purposeful and has a message.

I’ve recently had the opportunity to shoot the red carpet of Tyler Perry’s studio opening and it was a MAJOR moment for my career. I also have worked on a few assignments for Essence covering street style & beauty. I’m so grateful that my work is being seen and valued by people all over. It’s pretty cool to see my efforts paying off and I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always a very curious kid. I remember being so fascinated about the world and wanting to learn more about new people and places. I was really shy growing up and when I found art, it was like a new way for me to express myself. Deep down inside, I knew I always wanted to be an artist so I’m glad that’s actually happening now.
