Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Smith.
Taylor, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As long as I can remember, I have loved taking photos. When I was younger, I would steal all of my mom’s disposable cameras and take photos of anything and everything – my main subject being our dog. In high school, I got my first DSLR camera, and I was hooked. I would have little photoshoots with my siblings… and yes, my dog was once again my best client. From there, family and friends began to ask me to take their photos. Photography became a little side gig. I stepped away from shooting while in college, but I gradually got back into photography because my friends wanted me to do their senior portraits.
From there, it just took off! At the time, I was working my main job while attending school and shooting on the weekends. I was very conflicted on rather to continue with my quote on quote…”real job” in marketing or to take the self-employed leap. I knew I had a passion for photography, and I wanted to put everything into making it a successful business, but I was so scared to leave a steady paycheck. Right before graduation, I actually got laid off by my other job, so I took that as a sign to go for it! That was October 2018, and I have been a full-time photographer since! Now I stay very busy shooting weddings, elopements, engagements, and portraits.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been a crazy road to get where I am today. I have succeeded and I have failed, but I am learning everyday! With recent events, I feel like the Coronavirus pandemic had been the biggest trial and learning experience. But I am still pushing through, and I am so stoked for what’s ahead for my business!
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I specialize in weddings, elopements, and engagements. But I also shoot maternity and lifestyle portraits. I love connecting with my clients and telling their stories through photos.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My biggest supporters my husband and my family 🙂
