Meet Teia Acker of Ebony & Ivory Professional Services LLC & Teia Acker #Resilient in Downtown/Central Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teia Acker.

Teia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Author, Entrepreneur, Philanthropist, Motivational Speaker, Community Advocate

My story began in 2013. It was a very difficult year. I lost my marriage, my father and my job- consecutively. I remember sitting in the Salvation Army awaiting assistance for a couple of utility bills and I closed my eyes and said: “God Help Me!” That he did. He gave me the idea to begin a business- one that would aid in helping others… BUT WHAT!! Before being laid off (for the 3rd time from the same company), I managed to begin a company and I was eagerly excited to get it off the ground. And so it happened… I opened Ebony & Ivory Professional Services, LLC on July 25, 2013, in the center of my living room. While contemplating the next chapter of my life, I begin servicing individuals with the business knowledge I had obtained in my graduate studies and from my many years in sales and marketing. From that moment to year six, I have had the opportunity to secure a successful selling book “Let There Be Business” in two of the largest book retail chains in the country- Barnes & Nobles Bookstore and Books A Million Bookstore. I have also had the opportunity to serve a philanthropist to organizations such as the Cam Newton Foundation and Start-Up Grind for Google. Most of my business success is attributed to my podcast #GETNOTICED! and RESILIENT LIVING. These platforms have opened doors to channels to include Tidal, Itunes, Spotify, Google, Amazon Music and so many more.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course not! I have lost a lot of friendships, relationships and time reaching my goal. However, if I could start over, I would do it again. The struggle of raising two children, financially supporting them alone, engaging in several failed relationships (until current) and being told “NO!” in so many instances.

I had to learn how to navigate from the social stigma of being an educated, African American woman in an era where people celebrated what was popular versus what was right. Being accepted by your friends, family and those who knew me prior to my success was the greatest challenge.
