Today we’d like to introduce you to Terence Mills.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Terence. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It was always something special when it came to me and Art. I came from the small town of Soperton, Ga where it was all about graduating and getting a normal job to take care of yourself. That wasn’t for me because early on I found that I wanted to do more… BE more. I embraced that part of me and worked hard on learning graphic design. with Youtube as my teacher in the early days, I began on my journey. Graphic design was the way that I could show all the best parts of who I was. I committed to becoming the best that I could be in the field and I graduated in 2016 from Full-Sail University with a B.S. degree and along the way had the opportunities to work with Sony, Interscope and Epic Records with talent such as Swift, Posta, Mul-ty and more.
In 2010, I picked up a camera and began shooting with artists and aspiring models and the love for the art began to open more doors. Just recently, I had the opportunity to work with my very first magazines with Stephanie Davis of, EMPOWER and Hustle and Soul Magazine, where I designed monthly covers and assisted with cover photoshoots. In 2019 I wanted to do more. I wanted to build a platform to help others reach their goals. Middle Georgia has a lack of opportunity for exposure in the entertainment aspects. You have to go to Atlanta to even be heard or seen coming from this area. I came up with the publication of “DESTINED” which is on Magcloud and Barnes and Noble (Online). The shift and focus came from the feeling of being able to help change others lives with the gifts I was given; to give others the opportunity to take a step closer to their goals and dreams and to ultimately reach the place in life where they would have their definition of happiness. So far I can happily say that Asia, Floyd, Melanie Hancock, Ashley Walker, and Quentez Howard, and Allen Lovett have taken steps closer to their dreams by being published in “In the City Magazine”, “Faschic Magazine”, and “Destined” multiple times gaining the exposure they need all coming from small towns.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t been a smooth one but it has been worth it. Everything so far has been funded by myself and the talent worked with. We have support but financial support hasn’t been provided yet. Personally, it has been really rough. I have three kids and a wife and the biggest obstacle is working six days a week on a job and then making sure they get quality time while being a creative. People always ask me how do I juggle so many things and still remain calm on the outside and create new content on a regular basis. Little do they know, it’s a constant battle. Every night, I want to quit and every morning I want to create. Lol, I know that it’s my purpose because no matter the struggles, I push through it because, in my heart, I know that what Im doing isn’t just about me. It’s about the people who need me because I’m the missing puzzle piece to the things they’re needing to accomplish. It’s a selfless job but it’s one that at the end of the day, I can truly be satisfied with while spending my time here on earth.
Please tell us about Newstarstudios.
NewstarStudios is a photography and graphic design business with a focus on working with individuals with dreams. Known for event flyers and small business support in the early years but now widely known for photography work in recent years. I’m most proud of being able to bring the ideas and dreams of people to live and helping develop the talent that comes within my path. What sets me apart from others is the passion, drive, and determination for setting the goals and accomplishing them for everyone I work with.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is playing little league and hitting my first home-run. I was going through a hitting slump one season and I had just struck-out. I felt devastated and it was all over my face. My dad went home that same night and built a system that would help level out my swing and for the next two weeks, we work and perfected it. The very next game, I hit a home run! The look on my Mom and Dads face is imprinted in my mind forever.
