Meet Thom Lillie of Lillie Studio in Smyrna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Thom Lillie.

Thom, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My dad has been a glassblower since 1955. He started Lillie Glassblowers in 1968 and was research glassblower at Georgia Tech till 1986. I went to Tech in 77 and in 1981 decided to follow his footsteps and continue his love for glass. We have been in business since 1965 and employed up to 9 glassblowers at one point. We do all custom glass art and Awards for large companies as well as small companies wanting to recognize their employees.

We are a unique operation in that we do everything from customizing a design to ordering materials to fabricate the piece and then proceed to assemble a one of a kind glass art piece to be presented to individuals are companies. Each piece if hand blown and no molds are used. Whether we are making 1 of a kind or 40 pieces, each one is meticulously hands formed. we then ship or customer picks up the piece.

Has it been a smooth road?
Employees, especially artists are emotional people and keeping the creative side going means keeping the individual happy and focused

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Lillie Studio – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Again, we are a custom operation and each piece suits the customer. Whether it be a Crystal Baseball Bat for a professional Player, or apiece specifically designed for an executives office or home. No piece is ever alike

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Opportunity for growth because of vast numbers of offices and businesses. Fortunately, we don’t have a long commute, but that would be the downfall. Plus IT’S JUST NOISY
