Meet Tiana Thomas of The Positivitea Podcast in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiana Thomas.

Tiana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
So, I’m Tiana. My social media name is “Organic Tee.” I started calling myself that when I was in college. I’m a natural, black woman (hair-wise), and I love organic foods, whether it’s a fruit, veggies, or holistic medicine. I’m 26 years young and I’m originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, raised predominantly in Metro Atlanta (East & Westside). I’ve felt I’ve always had a hard knock life. Being raised by a single mom, and having a dad that was in and out of my life made me go through so many emotions and trauma. Those very moments in life led me to create and birthing “The Positivitea Podcast.” The Positivitea Podcast consists of only one host, me, and is dedicated to the woman of color who struggles with any form of mental health. I give my life experiences on moments with dealing with depression, anxiety, and all forms of inner issues. In the gist of it all, I 360 the negative experiences with “positive coping mechanisms.”

I started with a dream and a vision. Cliche right? Actually, I started with a few takes of me recording myself on my iPhone and then playing the recordings back to back to hear myself talking. I thought, “ain’t nobody gonna take me serious.” I had to get over that negative connotation about myself because, in the long run, I knew I had a story to tell. Every week, I would drop an episode on Tuesday mornings at ten and create my own promo to spike my audience. Spreading the word through various social media, friends, networking events, I’m now about to approach my 3rd season. Not to mention, I started my podcast in October of 2019, and it’s currently May. Seven months in, my numbers are getting there, my audience is evolving and growing, and I’m growing too! Getting behind the mic, telling my story is my therapy, and getting feedback and love is my “happiness.

From here on out, I would like to continue to work really hard on expanding my messages while healing and transforming myself and those around me. I used to think I was a loner in all the negative things I been through in life at such a young age. However, I’m beginning to realize. Everyone has some “tea” to spill; it’s all just lessons in life that makes us all grow stronger.

Has it been a smooth road?
It started off smooth, being honest. But then as I realized people were watching me more and more, it felt like I was always under the spotlight. Now, again, I know it’s cliche to say that because I’m being interviewed currently by a magazine! However, here is another ironic lesson in life, being introverted most of my life makes social anxiety a constant battle for me.

I’m very spiritual, so at this point, I just try to pray about any bumps in the road along the way, from social anxiety to flip-flopping support from “friends” and “family” to feeling like my messages aren’t getting nowhere. When your in the process of healing like I am, you have to keep a positive voice in the back of your mind to remind you of what your doing and WHY! So regardless of the struggles, I will NOT give up! I have faith that is growing stronger, more and more everyday!

We’d love to hear more about The Positivitea Podcast.
The Positivitea Podcast is a small business that promotes mental health awareness within the black community. I’m not licensed nor degreed, but I’ll be the first to tell you that “life” graduated me into feeling, learning, and understanding psychological matters. As I stated before, I’m known for dissecting important signs of mental health stigmas within the colored community.

I’m proud to be able to reach many people in as little as seven months primarily because, in a society like today, we need to discuss how trauma shouldn’t be swept under the rug, unbalanced emotions shouldn’t be deemed “crazy,” and depression shouldn’t be taken lightly. What sets The Positivitea Podcast apart from others, is the simple fact that aside from the physical, I feel that mental health is just as IMPORTANT. There are two groups of people in life. Those who sweep mental health aside, and those who take a stand to create a healthier state for their life overall.

As CEO and founder of The Positivitea Podcast, I plan to continue to be an advocate to push the population to be group B, those who want to create a healthier state for their life overall. Lastly, what sets me apart is the lack of resources within the black community regarding mental health. No longer will our mental well being be undermined, were just as prominent as the next living being.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the opportunities that you get in Atlanta. For a long time, I associated the city with negative experiences that happened in my life as an adolescent. In the end, I moved away for college and never wanted to look back. However, forces drawn me back to the city, and life is much different and positive. I like the most, the culture, the vibes that never dies. Atlanta is like the city that is always alive; it truly never sleeps. I dislike the feeling of others in the city that try to 1 up each other. I think if there was more of a glorified unity here, more people can really be successful as the next person.
