Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony F Sanders.
Tony, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always been amazed at how makeup could change the appearance of an individual. As I would walk through the mall or look at magazines, I would often wonder how the artist made such drastic changes in a person’s appearance. So I purchased some makeup and began to play in an effort to teach myself how to become a makeup artist. I learned some great tips n tricks on my own but not enough do deem myself an artist. The day I feel I became an artist, happened when a cousin of mine decided she was not going to the prom because all the makeup counters at the mall were booked and she was unable to have her makeup done. Together, we created a look she was happy with and she was able to attend the prom and everyone was happy that is what started my career as a makeup artist.
Since the start of my career, I have worked at several prestigious makeup companies before launching my own makeup service company in 2004. Currently, we at the art of makeup 2004 don’t sell any makeup but we do offer any makeup service needed. Everything from simple beauty to special effects we can do it.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to my success has not always been easy but I’m grateful for the hard times because of those times I’m able to enjoy the good times even more. Some of the struggles like not knowing when or where my next gig was going to be, working for free on a gig to help build a name for myself, working on a gig and receiving a check as payment that was no good. But through it all, I didn’t lose my passion for artistry and 20 years later, I’m still in the industry.
Please tell us about The Art of Makeup 2004.
My company is a network of Makeup Artist, who work hand and hand to offer any makeup service you may desire. We offer every service from a simple every day wear it anywhere makeup look to special effects. We specialize in bringing your inner beauty to life. We work with celebrities as well as the general public to enhance the appearance of anyone our brushes touch. One of our proudest moments is when one of our artists complete a course, workshop, advanced skill training, or any certification that he/she earns to help catapult the company to the next level of artistry we always share the information with each other.
Because of the family-oriented business module that I use, all of my artists are able to communicate, share, offer feedback, teach tips and tricks to each other without creating any hostility between the team. We all have worked for a major cosmetics brand at one point or another, and we are no stranger to hard work and personal commitment.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is spending time with my grandmother, Catherine Sanders. She was very adventurous, loved the outdoors and offered us wisdom rather we wanted it or not. She helped to mold me into the person I am today. She and my mother (Minnie L. Sanders) always gave me the opportunity to be myself and consistently told me that hard work and dedication will create success.
