Today we’d like to introduce you to Tory Brown.
Tory, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started Elite Media Studios 6 years ago after quitting my job to pursue my business full time. The first couple years were extremely difficult because at that time I was without a home and making money while trying to survive was a challenge. I would catch the marta train to meet with my clients at Atlantic Station daily and stay in Starbucks from sun up to sun down until they closed. I started my company because I saw the need for quality branding in my community, so I started with designing flyers and business cards for churches and it grew from there. Today millions of people have viewed and shared my work across all social media platforms, magazines, and television. Through hard work and dedication, I was able to take a company with no start-up money and no home and create Elite Media Studios which has not created brands for Grammy Award winners, Academy Award Nominees, and multiple #1 Billboard charting artist. I have been privileged to see my work on television, the cover of magazines and CDs. I built my company from a need to survive because I didn’t have a degree or any money. The job I had prior to quitting paid me little to nothing and worked me all day and I knew I could make better use of my time than that. So through my desperation and will to do better in life, I taught myself the skills to win. I stayed on the computer all day learning and reading books on photography, graphic design, videography, editing, and now people call me daily for those services because it is always my goal to provide ELITE services to everyone who crosses my path.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, not at all, but that is to be expected… I realize that nothing that’s worth something will be easy to obtain. I wanted to quit so many times. As a full-time business owner, I realized I had to rely on myself and my clients. There were so many times I had negative balances but still had to produce for my clients and somehow it always happened. I will be honest as say one of the most difficult challenges were people not valuing my product and asking for discounts off of a product they knew was quality. I would say my work was just on TV, magazines, and billboards and I could go to Walmart or Target and purchase my product off the shelf but people thought they should get it to undervalue.
Elite Media Studios – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Elite Media Studios is a brand development company that specializes in creating quality marketable imagery. I’m most known as a celebrity photographer, but I’m also a graphic designer, producer of a monthly live music show (Soul Sessions), Video Producer, and speaker. I’m most proud that all my gifts, talents, and abilities have been successful. Through my photography department I’ve shot major stars like Margaret Shug Avery from the Color Purple, and Recently Jonathan Mcreynolds which is one of my favorite artists. Through my video production department, I’ve produced music videos for Billboard Charting artist like Casey J and Social Media Sensation Brianna Babineaux. Through my graphics department, I have branded hundreds of clients, conferences, and tours. Through my entertainment department, I created a show called Soul Sessions in Atlanta which has been successfully selling out shows monthly. So, I would say what sets me apart and makes me proud is the ability to do multiple things and do them well.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Opening my first studio in Atlanta and Shooting Margaret “Shug” Avery from the Color Purple.
