Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Johnson.
It’s been said that whatever doesn’t kill us makes us stronger. If that is true, Christina Johnson has superhuman strength. A teen mom born to a teenage mother, Johnson refused to be a statistic. The Charlotte, NC native relocated to Atlanta, GA in 1997 with her two young daughters in pursuit of a creative career, but as fate would have it, she met and fell in love with burgeoning rapper/singer CeeLo (formerly of NBC’s The Voice). Sharing a mutual passion for family life and artistic expression, Johnson served as CeeLo’s muse in several of his music videos; the couple married in 2000 and welcomed a beautiful and healthy son in 2001. Johnson now a mother of three and a newly-wed decides to adorn an additional hat and becomes the owner of Inner Piece Design (IPD), a progressive interior design and consulting firm.
Johnson’s company was known for its minimalistic approach to design, by combining natural and organic materials with modern pieces that visually harmonize with high-end residential properties and commercial spaces. IPD’s clientele included superstar entertainers such as CeeLo, Ludacris and Young Jeezy, as well as athletes, urbanites and business professionals. Johnson’s work has been showcased on the television show, MTV, and in between the pages of popular magazines such as Ebony, Vibe, Atlanta Peach and Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles, where she was featured in the Top 10 Designers Under 40 issue.
In 2005, Johnson divorced from her husband of five years, which ironically left her seeking inner peace, in addition to confronting deeply hidden issues she had buried since childhood. Seeking solace in her service first attitude; she connected with a domestic violence organization where her public speaking artistry took flight. As a mother, her experience for cultivating young children and young adults was a natural maternal trait, so speaking to some of Atlanta’s youth at some of the area schools on the subject of verbal and physical abuse was another avenue for her to educate.
In 2014, she became one of the stars of VH1’s Atlanta Exes. Johnson valued the sisterhood bond she developed with her enterprising cast mates but also used the opportunity to shed light on being a survivor of domestic violence, and Graves’ disease, an autoimmune disorder that commonly affects the thyroid gland. Diagnosed in 2009, she has undergone three surgeries over the course of a few years but remained optimistic and has since overcome the condition. This visionary mogul is now a Global Life Coach! Johnson does one-on-one coaching with women all over the world. ‘The Quench Quest’ is a new group coaching program that Johnson has added to her mentoring curriculum. She’s guiding women on a path of learning how to forgive themselves and their past. She’s also teaching them how to love themselves again, or in some cases for the very first time. Her goal is to show them ways to authentically enjoy their lives.
Having overcome years of setbacks and battles, Johnson feels that she has done the work, is a walking example of what she teaches, and is finally living her purpose; what some may consider the new ‘American Dream’. As a devoted mother, businesswoman, spiritual guru and philanthropist, Christina Johnson may not view herself as a modern-day superwoman… but if the cape fits… MAY as well WEAR it and OWN it.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has been eventful, to say the least! Surviving abuse, illness, as well as being open and vulnerable and sharing my story with people all over the world, has been my greatest teacher. The best advice I can give to women is, understand that things aren’t just happening to us, they are always happening for us as well. One of our most difficult life tests, are here to help grow us in patience, resilience, power, and STRENGTH! No matter what, stay in a state of gratitude. Gratitude will open your life up to more blessings. You are enough and worthy of it all. Go through your life with your eyes wide open because this is where the good stuff lies.
Please tell us more about what you do. What you are currently focused on and most proud of?
The very essence of love will be the central focus of the Christina Johnson’s Life coaching programs. A one-on-one coaching session is your opportunity to interact with me, the founder and creator. My goal is to empower all women from all walks of life to develop into the strongest, beautiful and most resilient women possible, all while offering a guiding hand.
Life Coaching is so important to me because I used to live my life thinking I was never enough. I grew up around abuse, only to eventually become a survivor of abuse, in addition I had serious low self- esteem issues. Life coaching is much more than a job to me; it is a way of life. This mentality of “I am not enough” can be nearly impossible to overcome, and so I wish to share with the world how I overcame self–hate and how I now accept and forgive myself. It is my desire to help women love themselves, and learn to accept themselves. When you are finally able to love yourself, the disrespect that other people may send in your direction no longer has meaning and CANNOT cause harm or hurt. This has become a personal crusade, one that I am honored to be tasked with. I have been lead to work one on one with clients to offer them as much care and attention as possible.
Christina is helping to enlighten women on the premise that we teach people how we want to be treated, by the way, we treat ourselves. With so many great life coaches out there, selecting the ideal coach may feel daunting, but Christina believes that all experts in this field are working to help and save as many people as possible; it truly takes a village. Christina’s personal experience and background make her the ideal life coach for those in a rut or struggling to overcome adversity. She has conquered an incredible amount of challenges by working hard and overcoming past pain; she rose above it all. Now she’s a happy and successful individual wanting nothing more than to help others who are in the same situation that she was once in.
The uniqueness of the Life Coaching program allows Christina to be very hands-on. Along with the use of proven strategies, tools, and tactics, Christina gives each and every client her own dedicated commitment, compassion, care, and concern, while making each client feel as though they are her only client. Christina will not only listen to her clients’ struggles but help them develop the tools they possess to overcome all obstacles they’re facing and regain control of their lives. Christina has learned to turn her pain into compassion by developing the tools necessary to overcome nearly every obstacle. She wishes to share with the world her compassion and desire to help all of those in need.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
There are some amazing networking groups in Atlanta. You will need to do some research to find organizations that cater to your specific genre of business. It is always great to build relationships in your industry. Also, don’t be afraid to reach out to people that are successful in your industry and ask them for mentorships. Word-of-mouth has been the most successful avenue for me.
