Meet Trailblazer Deborah Jennings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Jennings.

Deborah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Three years ago, I lost my mom, dad, and husband to cancer. All within a year of each other. They were the loves of my life so I had to do something with all this LOVE. My husband was an Army veteran so I give most of my time to vets in need. When I’m not out nurturing our veterans, I’m reading to the children at various schools in Atlanta, volunteering with hospice, or preparing and serving the meals at local shelters.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has definitely been a smooth ride. My mom always told me, don’t spend all your time telling people how to live, show them in the way you live, the way you love, and the way you give. Let love have the last word. That love has opened so many doors for me and has caused so many to support my outreach.

Please tell us about Each One Reach One – what should we know?
I remember when I was in the 8th grade, I woke up one morning and smelled fried chicken. I went into the kitchen and mom was preparing a feast of fried chicken, green beans, macaroni & cheese, cornbread, cakes, and banana pudding. I said that’s a lot of food mom. She said it is now helping me put it in the trunk of the car. Unbeknownst to me, we took the food to a building where there were a lot of women and children there. It was my first encounter at a homeless shelter and the best day of my young life. It opened my eyes to the gift of giving. We fed them, we played with them, and we prayed with them. I now feed at various shelters in and out of Atlanta to shower them with love.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
Monica Kaufman Pearson, Michelle Obama, Rasheeda Frost, Tanisha Mackin, Jean Redding, Ellen DeGeneres, Shanon Thomas, and my daughter Cristina Julia Jennings. These women have that thing called UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. Always inspiring, uplifting, supporting and encouraging others. I am so very proud of each and every one of them.
