Meet Trailblazer Kristeena Spivey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristeena Spivey.

Kristeena, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up, I was always fascinated by real estate. I would often drive through communities just to see the styles of homes from neighborhood to neighborhood. And in Atlanta, there are so many unique areas and property styles. From the curb appeal, the architecture, the ever-evolving appliances, and interior design; I always knew I wanted to be a part of the industry. I just never really knew how or where to begin. Back then, HGTV had a surplus of “flipping” shows and “flipping houses” was on every cable network in some capacity. I would actually take notes on house flipping terms as if I was studying for the SAT.

Years would pass by with my actual 9-5 and the hustle and bustle of daily life keeping me from exploring my passion for real estate. One day, a lady I met suggested I jump into the field. I began searching for real estate schools assuming I needed to become a licensed agent in order to begin a career. I realized soon that I would not be able to take two weeks off of work to focus on studying for the agent exam.

Just then, my prayers had been answered. My friend Hanan called – she was in the middle of attending investor training with Evonnie. She had great news, we are starting this real estate business as investors and gave me the next date of the conferences we needed to attend. We created the brand EHK Investors, which was a play on our first names. And as they say, the rest is history.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing in life is easy. I wish I could say the experience has been smooth sailing. Although it is cliché, starting our own business has taken a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, literally. We make a ton of sacrifices. We miss our families, free time and weekends off. We barely have enough time in the day to eat or sleep. The best thing about it still, is the reward. Focusing on something you actually love to do.

If I could tell my younger self or a young woman looking to start her own journey where to begin, I would start with building your confidence. Know that you are capable of anything and you will succeed if you put in the effort and time. Research your options and start now! Don’t wait until years pass you by and you have other obstacles or hurdles to overcome simultaneously. I have a five-year-old daughter who I have to make sure is well taken care of on top of working hard in my business. Had I began ten years ago, I would have been further along in my passion and have more time to spend with my daughter today.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about EHK Investors – what should we know?
I am a real estate investor. That simply means, I along with my two partners search for dilapidated properties and buy them cash. We then take the opportunity to fix and flip, wholesale or rent them out. What makes me proud as entrepreneurs, is that we are all women in a male-dominated industry. Three women with a foundation in friendship, faith, and family; we prove to be a force like no other. We find ourselves running across other women and some men who simply want to work with us because they respect our foundation. We approach every opportunity business first and with integrity. In return, we are respected as being the strong entrepreneurs that we are.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
So many women have been an inspiration to me. You cannot neglect to mention the obvious Oprah, Michelle Obama, etc. The most inspirational of all would be my grandmother. In her “time”, or back when she was growing up, her generation was expected to find a career they could work hard in up until they die. While having a career was her main focus, she reminds me to take my time and find a passion. She does not have any regrets in life but, she always tells me how much she wished that chasing her dreams was an option, in her mind. She inspires me to be better than my dreams and to pursue the things that will make me happy in life vs. working career on someone else’s time. I am not sure I would have taken the chance had she not been in my corner cheering me on. I am completely grateful for her guidance and unconditional love.
