Today we’d like to introduce you to Margot Brown.
Margot, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up as a child, I never traveled or knew what it was like to travel. Part of my childhood was spent in Boston, MA and the other part was spent in northern Florida. My first time on an airplane was as an adult, and I remembered that I hated it. I wasn’t afraid of heights but was more afraid of being that high up in the air. I always vowed to fly more to overcome this but could never shake it. Fast forward 20 years and needless to say, my experience in flying was limited to work trips. I sat one day and was reflecting on my childhood and how I didn’t want my children to experience the same fear, so I decided to become a travel agent to learn more about travel and different places but also for the perks and benefits added by being a travel agent. I became certified and decided to incorporate my love for event planning into it as well. I did a ton of research and work daily on perfecting my craft. I am a certified travel agent specializing in destination weddings and group trips. I also am an event planner who specializes in small-scale events and intimate weddings.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has NOT been easy. My biggest challenge in being an entrepreneur is that I also have a career and a family and the balancing act isn’t always fun. You have to have your priorities in order and be organized. You have to focus on what matters most and make the most use of your time. You also have to constantly work to perfect your craft. What sets you and what you do apart from everyone else who does the same thing? Focus on that.

Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
I feel like my experiences growing up forced me to be successful in life. It was ingrained in me from a very young age that no matter what you do in life, be successful at it. Work hard and always do your best and you will always be successful.
