Meet Trailblazer Mia Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Jones.

Mia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My company honestly started out as just a hobby at home. I grew up learning to cook and bake from my grandmother and I would always provide a sweet treat at parties and family gatherings. I had a lot of people constantly pushing me to develop my craft and turn it into a business. Over the course of years, I gave it a LOT of thought and started out slowly growing Xclusive Cupcakes and still expanding it.

Has it been a smooth road?
Owning your own business is never a smooth road. There have been many of times where I find myself being the only one supporting myself, practicing new recipes or learning new techniques that grab the audience’s attention can be frustrating at times when everything is not pulling together as you hoped and you’re putting in long hours, you have moments where you want to throw in the towel. My motivation is that one day, I no longer want to be working for someone else. The goals I have for my company pushes me to keep pushing forward whether I have just 1 fan or millions of fans. You have to keep in your mind the reason why you started your journey, to begin with, and keeping the end goal in perspective. And map out several roads to get there. Sometimes we get fixated on just one way to do things and forget there are multiple avenues to the finish line.

We’d love to hear more about Xclusive Cupcakes.
I own a cupcake company and also specialize in chocolate covered treats for parties such as chocolate covered pretzels, rice krispies, Oreos, popcorn and alcoholic treats as well. Besides operating on my own, I’m also a vendor for an events company to come in an create a treats table. My goal to set myself apart from others is to create sweet and savory flavors that you would normally never see. For example, I have turned the girl scouts cookies into cupcakes and flavored popcorn and turned a kids classic, PB&J into a cupcake. A signature cupcake flavor that people love is my Sweet Potato Pecan cupcake with cinnamon buttercream.

Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
Cooking with my grandmother as a child definitely played a role in my success. As a child, I just loved learning with her and being able to consider myself a big girl for making my grandfather biscuits from scratch. As I started my company and wanted to add new products to my menu, I would call her for recipes and advice since she has a huge sweet tooth. And aside from her, my mother has been my number one fan and guinea pig! I run a lot of my ideas by my mom to get her feedback and brainstorming and she helps me when I’m at my wit’s end sometimes.
