Today we’d like to introduce you to Zoe Reuteler.
zoe, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve played music my whole life, piano and clarinet growing up. As I became an adult, someone introduces the idea of being a DJ, so I decided to take it for a ride. I moved to Atlanta from Charlotte, North Carolina to enhance my music career and since then, I’ve been booked To play popular venues such as Havana, opera district. I performed at Imagine Festival and will perform at Shakey Beats 2019.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been a smooth road in any way whatsoever. It’s been lonely being a female entrepreneur in the music scene. It’s been difficult to pave my path in a male-dominated industry. I feel like men have to identify themselves less than women. I felt like I didn’t have to be put in a category. This gives me the bravery to create an atmosphere where women can really be in charge. I feel a personal responsibility to set an example for other women who are brave enough to be successful in any industry.
I absolutely have valuable advice for other young women. Key is to support other women. Be there for each other and set an example for each other. Don’t be afraid to buy a ticket or share a post and reach out to other women.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
My profession is to provide energy in all atmospheres that can connect anybody in the room and leave a lasting impression. My goal as a musician has always been to change lives. I’m most proud of the opportunity to provide the inspiration for women like me to pursue their dreams and the opportunity to open up the platform for everyone especially women to conquer their industry no matter what it is. I believe I am different because I am deeply rooted in my passion for inclusion because I have been the outcast. At a young age, my dad taught me to believe that everyone has their own path and that they should take confidence in it.
Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Never be afraid to stand alone. Sometimes, even in the dark, people are still rooting for you and you just don’t even know it.
