Today we’d like to introduce you to Tre Moore.
Tre, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started sewing when I was 12 years old. My mother would design her outfits. Her vision was very inspirational to me. Late night I would sneak her sewing machine up to my room. I would place the sewing machine on a towel so my mother would ‘not hear the chopping sound of it sewing and I would practice sewing. That was in 1986 throughout the years I have picked up many skills. My very first job was in welding at the age of 16. I have a mechanical background and self taught. Upholstery is my second love and skill I have. I’ve designed and made so many garments; it became second nature. One day I had an idea to move in a different direction by designing and making handbags. I am now 45 years old and I can’t even count how many handbags I have made to date. My hometown city culture influenced the method in which I design. Everything I design and make is right off the top of my head. In hip hop culture, we would call it freestyling. I make classy, elegant unique leather handbags from scratch. I design the thought first then design a pattern and method to construct it. My name is Tre Moore and I’m a handbag designer with a unique style.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
To succeed, you must fail. Even when you’re succeeding, life will always throw you a curveball that you never expect. You roll with the punches in life and reposition yourself every chance you get, for the better. I left home at 13 years old, not by choice. Less than a year later, my grandfather passed in my arms. I dropped out of school in the 11th grade to keep my job at the time. I had three children by the age of 27—my first born a boy and two daughters. Also, by the age of 27, I lost my first born, he was seven years old. Remember those curve balls I was talking about. Losing focus on life with everything going on around me by the time I was 30, I found myself doing prison time. At the age of 35, I was in college for my business degree and decided I wanted to make handbags. I am now a business owner, home owner and trademark holder. Through all of the things I went through, I never lost my vision. Many obstacles I have blocked my path but I just designed another path. My journey has been long and I put my journey in each design. Even though you might not be where you want to be in life, you must take every lesson learned and apply it from that moment on and be thankful. Your lessons will guide you in life. Your vision and passion will be your drive. Love the creative journey you’re on and love the creativeness in you.
