Meet Tre’shon Flagg of Flaggartworks in Clarkston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tre’shon Flagg.

Tre’shon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well, my story starts off pretty simple, I grew up drawing every day and the more I drew, the more ideas came on the paper. I love drawing so much but what inspired me to draw was my uncle introducing me to Marvel Comics. Every character he showed me was fascinating but, the one character that caught my eye the most was Spider-man, then after that moment, I decided to draw superheroes. I studied for four years at the art institute of Atlanta for my bachelor’s degree in Illustration and became an official freelancing illustrator. My recent jobs were working at the Cartoon Network base for three months and working with Marvel for four months and it was the best experience of my life! But that’s just a little something about myself.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It started off smooth and at a point, it was getting easy but, life has a funny way of bringing you back to reality. I dealt with a lot of illustrators telling me my art is weak and flat based and I dealt with art jobs that didn’t hire me because I didn’t have a strong style. It hurt, to be honest, and it seemed like a lot of places don’t hire illustrators in Atlanta but I managed to still find people that love my work and actually helped me start my small business.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Flaggartworks – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Well, I’m a comic Illustrator so, I specialize in drawing comic books and pages and I also take commissions and draw logos, designs, characters, and etc. the thing that I’m very proud about is the fact it’s all my characters and people actually like them like requesting me to give my characters their own comic. the thing that makes me different is its all done by just myself and I give people a character or a story black people relate to.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans are very simple, to have my company become big and see all my characters come to life in my own hands. The most recent plan that I’m planning to achieve is to start my first comic panel at a con (Convention) and display all my art for everyone to see. Only big change now is that I now have a partner that is going to help create my stories.
