Troy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The exciting story behind me picking up the clippers and combs simply starts with stylist parents. My mother wore salt and peppers cuts and dad stayed in the barbershop keeping his bid daddy Kane box sharp. My younger brother was my guinea pig for wu-tang and Nike designs; he had no clue. At some point, my passion took over where barbering and business ownership was my life’s goal. I started my first shop right after college and loved the independence and camaraderie of the barbershop. Twenty years vested, still working to put out great work and manage a growing business in Atlanta,ga.
Has it been a smooth road?
The struggles I have faced along the way start with clients/customers not willing to adjust with prices increasing. Leasing commercial real estate has been a whole world of education as well. The toughest struggle actually is staffing. The salon/barber world is all about great experiences starting with a great group sets a tone and vibe for the business.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Cutters Lounge story. Tell us more about the business.
Cutters lounge strives for picture-perfect quality with our client experiences. The online booking and live updates on social platforms keeps clients on track with barber skills, a visual and updates for next service. We have a signature service made for guys looking for the perfect amount of relaxation and precision.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The industry is growing in a fantastic way barbers and stylist are doing shows, creating products,
huge companies partnering and producing the newest hottest products. The barber/ stylist are the people who make trends and elevate the confidence of each person we serve. The industry is going digital, allowing clients booking from their phone has moved us into the twenty-first century.
