Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyra D.
Hi Tyra, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m an R&B/soul singer/ songwriter, actress and model. I started dancing at the age of 4 and shortly after I began to model, act and sing. I’ve always had a love for music, I remember humming my favorite jingles from commercials as a toddler. I started Theatre at a young age and then developed a love for TV/Film when I started shooting short films.
When I was in high school I decided I wanted to take my Performing Arts career to the next level so I decided I wanted to train in Los Angeles for college. I knew I couldn’t see myself doing anything else in life because I’m so passionate about performing.
I received my Bachelor’s in Performing Arts with a Concentration in Musical Theatre as well as my Associate’s in Musical Theatre from AMDA College of the Performing Arts. I am now a SAG-AFTRA Eligible actress who has acted alongside Jacob Latimore in Season 4 of “The Chi” on Showtime and Bella Thorne in the upcoming feature film “Saint Clare.”I’ve also booked Voice-Over work for Target and BET Networks. I just released my new single “Mutual” which is available on all streaming platforms as well! I can’t wait to see what’s in store because this is just the beginning!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. The entertainment industry is very cutthroat and you have to be very determined in order to “make it.” As an actress, you’ll do HUNDREDS of auditions a year before booking. I always like to think that I am one booking away from living out my dreams! I’d love to be an inspiration to others that are passionate about their craft.
When I was in high school a lot of my peers didn’t believe me when I expressed my goals for my career. Instead of getting discouraged, I used this to push forward and ignite a fire within me to prove them wrong. Anything is possible when you work hard and trust God’s timing.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I just released my new single “Mutual” and I’m super excited to share this single because I know that a lot of women will be able to relate to this. “Mutual” is also a single from my upcoming project that I’ll be dropping. This will be my first project so I definitely wanted to put my heart and soul into creating it.
As far as acting I’ll never forget the feeling of joy that I got when I booked Episode 407 of “The Chi” on Showtime. It feels AMAZING to see myself on television and be uplifted and celebrated by others for my achievements. I’m also very proud of my Target and BET voice-over bookings as well as the upcoming Feature Film “Saint Clare.”
What sets me apart from others is my drive and my willingness to help others. I started Acting Career Consultations because I received a bunch of questions from people who wanted to get into the entertainment industry but they didn’t know how to start. What makes you happy?
Looking back on my younger self makes me really happy. I’m really proud of how far I’ve come. I’m not where I want to be yet, but I’m achieving things I used to dream about as a child. It also makes me really happy when I can inspire others to go after their dreams.
I started my “Becoming Hollywood’s Next Big Thing” series on TikTok @OfficialTyraD because I wanted to show people how much work it takes to be successful in the entertainment industry. A Lot of people see the success and glamor, but they don’t see the sleepless nights, the breakdowns, rejections and everything else that comes in between. I want to document my journey so that when I make it people can see my journey along the way and be inspired by it.
