Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyrone and Niesha Hicks.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Early Spring of 2011 I decided to officially follow behind a great man’s footsteps, my dad Tyrone Hicks Sr. I officially started my own lawn care service business, Hicks & Son’s Premier Services. I’d trained and worked alongside my dad for many years and eventually knew that it was time to continue the family business. In the upcoming year I was approached about purchasing a barbershop that I patronized over the years. Without a second thought I called my sister, Niesha Hicks, while she was still at work and told her I needed a check to open the barbershop. Although she was slightly shocked she came to me immediately from work and brought my checkbook. Thus, was the beginning of the TKT brand. Once renovations where complete we launched the grand opening of TKT Premier Cuts in August of 2012. While planning for the grand opening my sister, now my right hand, and I decided to purchase 3 new commercial inflatables not knowing that in 2015 something much bigger would grow from this.
In 2015 my sister, Niesha, asked to rebrand the inflatable business. At this time TKT Playtime Entertainment was born. Never did we expect for things to take off in such an explosive manner. Since then our TKT brand has hosted 3 annual back to school drives for the community, provided thanksgiving baskets for those in need, contributed to numerous of families for Christmas and much more. It has been such a humbling experience being able to not only help those around me but the community as well.
Fast forwarding to 2018, not only do I still have the above mentioned businesses but I also own TKT Premier Auto’s and my team and I have been able to successfully obtain our 501(c)(3) status for our non-profit organization, 1 Village Inc.
Has it been a smooth road?
There have been all sorts of challenges along the way. Starting a business is a lot more difficult than one may think. Not only have I faced financial struggles but just showing clients that my businesses are the best choices is a task all in itself. I’ve taken several loses just to show how dedicated I am in what I do. Still until this day I put others in front of my business making money especially when it comes to kids because I never want a child to be disappointed.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with TKT Playtime Entertainment – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
TKT Premier Cuts is a barbershop that services the Decatur area. We have some of the best barbers and a great stylist on staff. TKT Playtime Entertainment is an inflatable company that services the metro Atlanta area and sometimes a little further in distance depending on the event. Not only do we rent inflatables but we rent chairs, tables, generators, cotton candy/popcorn/snow cone machines, and we also offer airbrush art. Our website is www.tktplaytime.com. TKT Premier Auto’s is my auto company that allows me to go out and find customers their dream cars for the best prices. Hicks & Son’s Premier Services is a lawn care service that provides all your lawn care needs no matter how big or small. We have even been contracted through other companies to assist with providing their clients with the yards they envision. Lastly, 1 Village Inc. is a non-profit organization that strives to help educate, encourage and promote a healthier life style for disadvantaged youth and their families. 1 Village Inc. allows me to give back and it granted me a joy that I never knew existed. Not only do I get help those in need but the smiles and hugs that come from being able to do this has provided me with a payment that money can’t buy. Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the diversity of our city. It provides you meet people from all walks of life and it’s been the best learning tool thus far.
I think like most traffic is probably would I dislike the most. Sometimes it can be horrific and when I have multiple events or meetings in a day I most definitely have to account for traffic at all times.
