Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Carrillo.
Vanessa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started working here at the Ice Rink a little over 3 years ago. One day, I went to go skate and visit a friend that was working at the time. I asked her to introduce me to her boss so I could ask to work there. Only a day passed and I was already called to go into work. Shortly after working, my boss at the time, acknowledged my hard work. She was very impressed and I was asked to work for her the next season as well. The 2nd season working for her and her husband I was named their Assistant Manager. They always showed their appreciation for the extra work I would put into my job. Even our customers took notice, I would get tips and compliments on my positive attitude and great customer service.
Finally, this season my previous bosses sold the rink to a family member. They told him about me and he also noticed my hard work very early on in the season. He always set me as the example for the other employees. As for next season, I was given another offer to work for him and his wife again and become a Manager. I have gladly accepted and am looking forward for my 4th season working at the Ice Rink at Sugar Hill. I am very appreciative that all of my hard work and dedication to my job has payed off and has brought me to where I am today.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Honestly, It was not always a smooth road. I felt as since I was set as the example for the other employees, I had to try even harder because I felt slighty pressured to appear as perfect. There were also days when I would feel completely worn out for giving my all every single time I stepped into work. But in the end, I am proud of my accomplishments and where I am today in my job.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Ice Rink at Sugar Hill – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are an outdoor ice skating rink and we are known for having the largest outdoor rink in the South East. As a company, I would have to say we are most proud of our positive reputation. The thing that sets us apart from other businesses would have to be our staff members. We are always interacting with our customers, making sure everyone is safe and happy. Our customer’s experience is very important to us, we never want them leaving unsatisfied with their visit. It’s also very rewarding to know someone has had a memorable visit here skating with us.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Working in this business has made me plan to have a business of my own in the future. For now, I am looking forward to share my work experience with new future workers and help them become the best they can be.
