Meet Veniece Newton of ENGAGEathon and Cypher City in Buckhead and Philadelphia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Veniece Newton.

Veniece, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I believe I was born to be an entrepreneur and to travel the world. At an early age, I began traveling to explore various cultures and to ensure I was able to witness life outside of my community. Having this experience confirmed that being exposed to positive things outside of my community shaped and molded me to be who I am today.

This ultimately led me to form Community Angel Foundation which is a nonprofit that works to empower, encourage and educate youth through various programs. This organization has been around since 2008 and we have served thousands of youth over the years. In addition, to honoring some amazing individuals for their work in community such as Usher Raymond and Nick Cannon.

Most of my life has been geared around community engagement, But I knew would not have felt complete unless I was able to pursue one of my entrepreneurial endeavors. And so ENGAGEthon was born. ENGAGEathon allowed me to incorporate my love for community and combine it with technology. ENGAGEathon is a community engagement software that tracks and rewards engagement through socially impactful activities for corporations, organization and universities/ campuses. We are truly excited because our software will not only track employee engagement for corporations and student engagement for universities, but we will also provide metrics and data analytics.

Music is also a love of mine., which is the reason why I’ve founded Cypher City. Cypher City is a music platform for lyricists, DJ’s and producers to connect, create and collaborate. This is a space where music and technology collide. We are currently of part of the Philly Tech Week in which we will have our official launch of the app. There will be a panel, fireside chat, cyphers and awards presentation in which we will honor Bryan Michael Cox with the Music Mogul Award and Spectacular Smith with the Tech Blazer Award.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. From the outside looking in; it may look like a cake walk. But when you’re dealing with everyday life, work, school, family, etc.; it can sometimes be a difficult task. But a true entrepreneur learns how to juggle and balance life very quickly to avoid falling on your face. Fortunately, my personality and character will not allow me to fail… I may fall a few times. But I can assure you that I will get right back up. It’s easy to give up when times are hard; that’s why everyone is not cut out to be an entrepreneur.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’ve been known to be a Petite Powerhouse because of my ability to connect people and juggle various projects at once. I suppose this may be the reason why I’m very passionate about both of my projects because I have a love for community and a passion for technology and music.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Atlanta is truly a hub for entrepreneurs, visionaries and innovators. It’s also a place that is based on relationships, so I would advise anyone starting out in Atlanta, to begin building a strong, solid genuine network.
