Meet Willie Wallace of The Main Ingredient

Today we’d like to introduce you to Willie Wallace.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After playing basketball professionally for a few years, I gave it up to work in the corporate world… but after moving to Atlanta, I saw so many young black professionals that owned there own business and I wanted to do the same. I always had a gift to be able to cook but never would I have imagined doing it as a profession. I started out meal prepping for people as a hustle and used social media as a marketing tool. Then I started getting inquiries about catering, and with no experience, I agreed to take those jobs but using other chefs in the industry as mentors. Though my network, and putting out quality food, I started getting recommended to many celebrities, having the opportunity to cook for Rick Ross, Janelle Monae, Rickey Smiley, and several other celebrities and it took off from there! No, I’m the personal chef for Mohamed Sanu, star wide receiver for the Falcons.

Has it been a smooth road?
There were definitely some times when I thought about quitting. Being an entrepreneur is not easy, and I take some hard work and sacrifices. But I knew this is what God destined me to do, so I embraced it and pushed thru. God always made a way.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
As a chef I provide many services including meal prep, private dinners small and large, catering for large events, cooking demonstrations and personal chef to athletes.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I love to see so many successful blacks in our city… it’s a great place for opportunity… you can literally do whatever you want as long as you got some hustle and heart in you. You can create whatever it is you want.
