Meet Winter Rae

Today we’d like to introduce you to Winter Rae.

Winter, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started singing when I was two, I wrote my first song when I was seven, I began performing in church plays and school plays at eight, I started recording my own songs at 15, I went to college at 19 for music business, I dropped out and moved to Atlanta to chase my dreams right after I turned 20. I lived all over the eastern US but I went to middle/high school in Gadsden/Birmingham, Alabama. Becoming a successful entertainer is not something many kids dream of where I’m from.. so I was always considered an outcast for being so sure of something that seemed so impossible to them. That’s why I knew I had to leave in order to grow. You can’t thrive somewhere that won’t support you.

So I’ve been in Atlanta for a little over three years now and I can say I’ve learned everything there is to know about the music industry. Be smart and patient and you’ll make it… but it’s really sink or swim and if you don’t have the IT factor, it’s gonna be really hard for you. But it’s a dream worth fighting for and it’s an achievable goal… it’s just gonna take a whole lot of hard work and rejection to reap the benefits of this lifestyle. I personally feel like I was made for this and I speak so confidently about my music career only because God has personally shown me this is my calling and with that type of confirmation, I can’t lose. I feel like I’ve just recently begun getting the attention we’ve been working for and people are beginning to see the fruits of my labor. It’s a very exciting time for me and I’m extremely thankful to God for every opportunity He’s given me now and in the future.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No. The music industry is not for the weak of heart. If you’re too sensitive to handle constructive criticism and complete rejection, my advice is to find a new hobby. I’ve been told no more times than I can count.. but I always tell myself YES! I tell myself I’m one NO away from the biggest YES and I continue to stay dedicated and persistent in my craft! You have to have a drive like no other to come out alive here. Everyone wants the same thing and they’ll step on both me and you to get it.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am Winter Rae. A 23 years old biracial, coronavirus survivor, heavily-tattooed, urban-pop, singer/songwriter/model/mother currently based in Atlanta, GA. Most people know me from making genreless music that you can’t quite put in a box. I write music/lyrics, I perform live, I collaborate with other artists, I release music and visuals independently and patiently wait my turn. I believe my proudest moment so far was being a finalist on The Voice. But I’m even more proud of myself for not giving up no matter how many people/situations told me I should. I believe the thing that sets me apart from other artists is that I don’t sound like anyone else. The artists my music gets compared to are legends such as Mariah Carey, P!nk and Amy Winehouse. We haven’t seen one of those in a very long time and I’m honestly sorry for the wait but here I am!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plan is to consistently release music and content and grow my fan base across the US. As my label, Resilient Records continues to make a name for ourselves, we will remain independent until we are offered a deal from a major label that is reasonable. I have two projects completed and ready to be released very soon. My single OneOfUs is the first one, dropping July 17, 2020.
